Fuel Economy

What kind of mpg are people getting off their new bravos?

Have to admit to being a bit disappointed with the 35mpg i'm getting from my 1.4 90, considering i used to get that from my 2.0 Renaultsport megane!

The brochure suggested 50mpg extra-urban, but that seems a bit ambitious.

Just wondering what any other petrol owners are getting, and whether I'm getting normal-ish figures.

Aren't the 'official' figures always way over the top though?

I can't comment on the petrol, but my 150 multijet has averaged 44 mpg in the 2200 miles since I bought it, with the fuel economy slowly getting better as the engine beds in (46.5mpg at the last fill)

Don't forget a new tight engine won't be as economical as a nicely bedded in one. Most people seem to think you need at least 10,000 miles before you start to get a reliable picture of what economy your car will deliver...

The other thing to consider is that a 90bhp engine will be working much harder than a 2.0 to maintain the same sort of speeds - smaller engines don't necessarily mean smaller fuel bills...

Re: Fuel Economy

Nipping about town I'm averaging about 37mpg.

On long motorway Journeys I.m averaging about 45mpg+

Last week I done a trip to Lossiemouth (from Glasgow which is jut over 400 miles there and back ) on just over a half tank.

I find the 1.4 16v pretty economical. About town yeah it drinks a bit more but it's not very thirsty in general I find.

From a complete full up I am getting about 500 - 550miles from a tank with gerneral driving. Maybe 65% motorway to 35% town driving. That's 30mph and 40mph in town and between 70 and 90mph in gerneral on motorways.

Re: Fuel Economy

Filled my 150 Sport JTDm twice now in the 1st 700 miles I have averaged 43 & 44 mpg . The on board trip mpg was reading 42 & 43. So 1 mpg less than actual.

Do you do more motorway or more local miles?
Mine seems to be more economical on the A & B roads than on the M roads.

Re: Fuel Economy

My usual commute is a mix of A, B and C roads. Get out on the weekend and do more of the same.

Re: Fuel Economy

Is 35mpg for a 1.4 90bhp engine THAT bad? I had an 02 reg Clio 1.4 16v and that only managed 39mpg even when it had over 20k on the clock & was run in. Im sure the Bravo weighs a fair bit more than my Clio did & i'd guess its not done many miles yet either, so it might improve a little?

Re: Fuel Economy

First proper measured fill last night, 514 miles on 50.25 litres of diesel = 46.5 mpg. Trip computer (average consumption reset for this fill) said 45.7, so like quiz, mine is reading slightly light... Car has done 2500 miles, mostly A road / dual carriageway with about 10% urban driving

Anyone else noticed how early the fuel light comes on? I did 40 miles with the light on and the needle was halfway through red, but still had 7 litres left in the tank when I came to refuel...

Re: Fuel Economy

It'll be interesting to see (well, for me anyway ) when we start getting some 1.6 ECO Bravo owners on here what 'real world' consumption figures they get.

Re: Fuel Economy

Hello all

Am new here, having just invested in a Bravo 1.6 Dynamic Eco Multijet 105bhp. Economy figures and low CO2 are what tempted me and my good lady. 48mpg in town and 62 mpg combined seemed too good to be true. Only done about 250 mile but the mpg is awful - 37! That's a mixture of town, extra urban and a motorway drive to Kingston from Brum last night. I am frankly rather horrified. Engine needs to do some serious bedding in methinks! By the way, I'm driving conservatively and not thrashing the engine - love drive though, plenty of poke if you suddenly need it.

Thoughts/advice/reassurance please!

Cheers

Ed

Welcome to the FF to you and your good lady!

No personal experience of the Bravo I can draw on but I've driven quite a few new Ford, SEAT and (most relevantly) Vauxhall diesels for work recently (all under 3,000 miles) and over similar mixed driving they have all got just over 40mpg, which disappointed me a bit.

I'd say if your consumption isn't going down to 40mpg in the next few thousand miles perhaps think about getting t checked by your dealer. In the meantime, try not to worry, relax and enjoy the ride.

Re: Fuel Economy

Hi All.

My first posting since getting the Bravo!
Consumption is varying depending on how I drive.
At first I was driving as if I still had a petrol (not changing up 'till 3000rpm).
Was only getting between 42-44 mpg!
Have changed my style now and it seems to have settled down at around 48-49mpg (A + B roads to work). Car is at around 11K on the clock.
Diesels seem to like long runs - did a round trip of around 250 miles a couple of weeks back and got an average of 52mpg.
My 1.6 Stilo would only get high 30's at best so I'm happy now!
