Anyone else noticed how early the fuel light comes on? I did 40 miles with the light on and the needle was halfway through red, but still had 7 litres left in the tank when I came to refuel...
Does that make it a 58 litre tank ?
The hand book is open to miss-interpretation. It says 58 litres including 7 litres reserve.
Does that mean a 65 litre or 58 ??
When my fuel light came on the range figure was 78 miles but was 29 by the time I filled the tank with 52 litres and had 1 red bar left.

Re: Fuel Economy

I read the handbook as meaning the reserve was part of the quoted capacity, not as well as (incidentally my manual says 57 litres?). I'd be very surprised if a car of this size has a 65 litre tank...

It does seem the fuel light and miles to empty are very conservative - I would estimate my fuel light comes on with 10 - 12 litres left... On a previous fill, I had the fuel light on for about 45 miles and the trip computer telling me 0 miles to empty, yet I could still only fit 51 litres in...

It is. The reserve value is what is roughly left in the tank when it is registering as empty. It's so you don't run your tank right down until the car is running on fumes (That is not an good idea).

it's amazing the amount of people that feel the need to get as much out the tank as possible before filing up again not realising you are getting nothing for free lol You're still usig the same fuel no matter how low you try to run it

Re: Fuel Economy

Not entirely - a lighter car will be more economical, not that we'd notice the difference! I do try to maximise the distance from my tank 'cos it just gets depressing visiting the filling station every week, so i try to stretch it out!

I'm talking about the people who continue to drive when the red ligt comes on and try to get every last drop out the tank. Why? lol your just using the same fuel lol

Re: Fuel Economy

Yesterday I had a 350 km (217 miles) trip out of the city, average consumption: 51MPG (5.5l/km).

In the city where the traffic is awful, it takes 33 MPG.
To get an ideea about the traffic, I drove 450 km in 23h (as the computer says).

I have a 120 mjet, with 550 miles

Re: Fuel Economy

Just done the brim to brim on ours, and worked it out as 47 mpg, which is a mix of all types of roads but probably more motorways (at around 80!). This compares to the computer which said 48.5 so not too bad a correlation

PS its a 1.9 MJ Sport 150

Re: Fuel Economy

With about 400 miles on the clock, the average mpg on the trip computer is 47.7 - that's a mixture of m-way and town. Will fill to top (now the NHS has coughed up this month's money and post again. Am averaging about 80 mph on m-way. If fuel prices keep going up I may be joining the lorries and grannies in the slow lane at 60 mph!

Re: Fuel Economy

I got 47.4 mpg on the last fill, the on board was reading 45.7
This was mostly M-roads

I have noticed though that Shell diesel gives me approx 5mpg more than Texaco diesel.
These are the only two garages I have used so far because they are the cheapest in my area @ £1.16 per litre
I have done 1500 miles so far and still expect the mpg to improve with use.

Does anyone else notice a reduction in mpg with Texaco fuel ?

Re: Fuel Economy

With my 120M-jet (~6000 mile on the clock), I'm getting about 55 mpg on my commute (90 miles per day) plus bits and pieces around town. This seems maybe 3 to 4 mpg less than my old Punto JTD Mk2 (with Mass Air Flow sensor disconected!), so I'm reasonably pleased. As a previous poster speculated, I think the official figures are over-optimistic - and this is fairly general. My wife has a Mini Cooper Diesel and is getting about 10 - 15mpg less than the manufacturers figures would suggest. I don't suppose road tax being based on emissions now has anything to do with it???!!!!
