DENSO spark plugs

Hi folks,

Was pondering how to boost a 1,4 16V engine and have found out a solution in DENSO Iridium Power spark plugs. See below.

http://www.globaldenso.com/PLUG/search/index_euro.html

But looking in to catalogue I can't find which type of the spark plug to get for the latest Bravo 1,4 16V. So any1 to advise or already having experience with them?

Thanks & regards,
pegas

How much? I heard you can get 4 kW more, far better acceleration and less consumption about 0,5l. If those are correct it is worth to spend 80€.

The 1.4 16V engine does not have spark plugs. You have one coil for every cylinder

Re: DENSO spark plugs

Of course it has spark plugs- it's a petrol fuelled, spark-ignited engine. It doesn't have HT leads if that's what you're thinking of.

Buying fancy spark plugs is pointless. You really wouldn't notice any gain over standard and I'm yet to see a before and after dyno test to prove it.

I don't agree they are pointless. Of course that I don't expect to be gaining 20hps or so but coupled with K&N airfilter, you can get from default 1,4 16V roughly 6hps more, i.e. cca 96hps. I have asked a few tunings and enthusiastic carservices and the figure I got is more less the same. Two of the questioned said they even have confirming dyno results?!? Well, maybe they boast in order to attract customers but 80 EUR for the plugs and 60 EUR for the K&N everlasting filter is worth to give it a try.

Only question that I need to resolve first is about warranty, so I will have to ask my dealer how they will regard the Denso + K&N instead of factory bits.

regards,
pegas

Re: DENSO spark plugs

Wrong you will get absolutly no gain on a new car. You will only tell the difference once they are a couple of years old and need changing.

As for warranty they could be arses and void it on pretty much the whole engine.

I have the same engine in my mk2b Punto Sporting and it always runs better with the proper NGK plugs the only ones I found to be better were the 'Platinum' ones from NGK.

Also ditch the K&N there rubish unless your planning a custom induction system for it to bolt onto. If your going to go through the expense of performance mods do it properly.

Re: DENSO spark plugs

Hello,

As many people have already said, to be honest you wont get much if any gain in power from these plugs. Plus with modern engines and coil systems, you have to be careful with what plugs you fit, as they all have slightly different resistances and these can play havoc with your coils, and in some cases can even spike the ECU, killing it and costing you lots of money to replace.
For the potential gains, (ie very small) the increased risk factor and 80euro price tag, i would say it isnt worth it.... but that's just my 2ps worth.

Hope that helps,
Alan
