No alarm as standard?

Hi. I think I'm going to order a new Bravo this week despite friends & family saying "Fiat??" when I tell them. On probing they question the reliability of the cars, but I thought that was a thing of the past, much like the old Skoda image? The 5 year warranty deal is a big sweetener for Fiat virgins .

Anyway, I have a question about a car alarm for the Bravo please. I was miffed as to why it's not standard kit. If someone is tampering with your car outside your home you'd want to know about it so you can run outside waving a pitchfork or something, right?

A photo of the alarm as an "accessory" on the Fiat.co.uk website shows a separate remote control for the alarm. Is that really the case or would the alarm on/off be integrated into the car's main electronics so the car's standard fob would turn it on/off? (My trouser pockets can only hold so much! )

One last thing... can anyone recommend an online dealer/broker for reliability and price? I've found a couple offering 20% discounts but have never used them before.

Great forum, guys! I've learn a lot about the Bravo (and turbos!) from reading all these discussions.

Thanks,
Gary.

Yes unfortunately the alarm is an option for some reason, had it done on mine before i picked the car up from my fiat main dealer back in October, you get an extra remote keypad which operates like the original keyfob from fiat.
It does the same operation as the original apart from you will get the alarm activated as well as immobiliser and deadlocks, also a separate button to open the boot.
You will have to use the key and not the keyfob though as the original will not work with the alarm.

Thanks BlueBravo. Can I ask you about the ESP? I'm thinking of going for the Dynamic T-Jet 120 but don't know if the ESP as an extra is worth it? Does the car make you aware of when it kicks in?

I like the look of the Sport but the comforts of the Dynamic. I guess the spoiler/skirts are dealer fitted options?

To be honest if i had the choice to have the esp on it as an option then i would say save your money, it will only kick in and be noticeable if you are in a situation where you might have lost control of the car due to high speed or very fast cornering, i havent noticed it kick in a on my one but as it was on the car already its a bonus i guess.
The skirts and spolier are dealer fitted on Bravo's apart from active sport or sport, which already have them fitted as standard.

Re: No alarm as standard?

Well I placed an order and requested the alarm as an extra. Then I can hear when someone breaks into my car to steal my USB stick packed with my best tunes! Yay! (Thieves don't break windows to steal CDs these days do they? Where's the cred in that?)

Re: No alarm as standard?

How much did you pay for your alarm to be fitted? I thought it would come as part of the car's specs. i.e. pay £139 for the alarm as listed on Fiat's website. My dealer has asked for £300 just to fit it! That's £439 in total for an item that most cars have as standard.

Let me see if i can dig out the paperwork, i have to say i think he is having a laugh there.
Well i just found my paperwork and it was done free of charge, but it was probably done through the deal i had at the time, but i still think thats a lot of money being quoted there by your maindealer.

Re: No alarm as standard?

Thanks BlueBravo. I Googled for an independant alarm fitter and found one that can fit a Viper alarm controlled using just the standard Bravo key fob. He said he fitted one last week to a new Bravo and got it working off the one key which is cool (locks and alarm).

I guess if I'm going to pay for an alarm it might as well be a better one for less money providing it doesn't affect the car's warranty.
