Rear Wheelarch...what is that stuff?

I've only had the car a couple of weeks and today was the first chance the weather's given me to give it a thorough clean. I washed the inside the wheel arches and can't work out what material the rear arches are lined with. On the front there are just plastic liners but at the back they're lined with what looks like some sort of felt...it gathers muck like nobody's business!

It seems like strange stuff to use in the arches. Anyone else noticed?

Probably the same stuff as they use in the audi e.t.c arch liners, i think the fel is some sort of stuff stuck on the plastic

It's used as it reduces the noise. Just keep washing it out!

Re: Rear Wheelarch...what is that stuff?

As well as noise it reduces spray, as the water thrown off the rear wheels hits the 'fuzzy' stuff and runs down and out, rather than bouncing off and out of the wheel arch. Hosepipe with a decent spray nozzle and give the rear arches a thorough cleaning out every couple of weeks. suggest wearing water proofs as you almost always soak yourself.

Obviously women in Summer in bikini's are an exception to this rule.

Also been on Focuses for several years. I think it's some form of recycled material, probably in the final stage of its recycling life.
