Previous Bravo was never sold in Australia, and Mazda have used the name here for quite a while now (since 1992 I think). Ritmo name has the advantage in the previous version never being sold in Australia either.

Troy.

Ritmo is hat the Strada was originally called in Europe.
Actually it was only in the UK it was called Strada, every where else in Europe it was called Ritmo.

So now, the New Bravo is actually a replacement for the Strada ???
In a way, the Ritmo/Strada was replaced by the Tipo which was replaced by the Bravo/Brava which was replaced by the Stilo and now we have the Bravo (or Ritmo in Australia).

Santa is correct in that the Ritmo name was changed to Strada for UK versions of the car, if my memory serves me right, the reason was that there was a UK make of lawnmower out around that time also called Ritmo and Fiat obviously did not want their car to have the same name as a lawnmower!

Never heard the lawnmower story before :D
The one I heard was the one that is mentioned on wikipedia, something about a ladies sanitary towel was named Ritmo in the US.
But I guess we'll never know for sure, but it's always funny with stories like this. :)
