Starting problem

Hello, I have some wierd starting problem with my 1996 brava 1.6 16v. When the car is hot (after hour or more driving) and when I stop the engine it starts OK, then after 10 minutes wont start, the symptoms are like the battery is empty. If I then wait for 20 minutes it startswith no problem. Does anybody have some idea what is wrong ?

Re: Starting problem

Check the battery voltage with a multimeter when u r car doesnt start. The reading will confirm if it's the battery.

Re: Starting problem

This seems to be overly common on the 1.6. Coil pack or Fuel pump or in my case it was both. Coils cost me 39 pump 79 plus VAT. Thats from a local auto elec place. fiat want 90 and 190 at least from them.

I don't think this is pump, symptoms are like when the battery is flat, engine is not turning or is turning wery slowly.

Re: Starting problem

it sounds as though when the car gets hot the electrical supply to the strater motor is restriced, this would be possible if either the live or earth cables have a lot of corrosion or poor contact, remove, clean and grease both cables at both ends. also do the main earth strap from the engine to chassis.
