(T) rearly anoying idle problem

hi i bought a fiat bravo 1.4 sx a couple of months ago and have been having idle problems (sounds as tho its missing or the mixtures wrong) with it and also a lack of power i cured the lack of power with a new cam shaft the old one was extremely warn and a fuel filter but the idle problem still persists i'v changed the icv ,i'v cleaned the throttle and butterfly valve and conections ,i'v changed the ht leads the spark plugs,to no avail i then noticed a split pipe from the rocker cover to the top of the throttle body i changed that and there was a slight difference in power and idle. but still revving between 800 and 1500 (before it was 800-2000) so i dissconected the battery for an hour reconnected it left the ignition on for 90 seconds and of started the car up and took it out for a drive about 30seconds after ,the car started to loose power for no reason in short bursts pulled over and the car was almost stalling going write down to 500 and then kicking back in to over 3000 revs doing this very quickly. i manged to turn it around but it kept stalling with the clutch pressed so couldnt change gear or it would stall i managed to get it back home but now i cant take my car out because if you release the throttle whilst foot on the clutch it stalls (i think the resistance from the cluth is making it stall as when on idle it is extremly close to stalling itself).
can any one help me please

try replacing the throttle position sensor.

thanks for the reply is the position sensor the potentiometer in the haynes manual or am i looking at the wrong thing why do you reckon re learning the ecu would have made such a difference to this?

resetting the ecu will make it use the default operating parameters for fueling and ignition, it can take some time to relearn better operating parameters, sometimes several journeys.

ok would it be best if i were to start it up and leave it to idle for 10 mins and see if that makes a difference as i cant drive it

once you fit a scrapyard TPS you should disconnect the battery for 20mins, then reconnect battery, then switch ignition on, wait 90 secs, switch ignition off, wait 90 secs, start engine, wait 5 mins, switch engine off, start engine again and then go for a drive.

sry this took so long but things happen. write well i tried to take the tps off and saw a dirt mark around the sensor which was not quite near the sensor and also realised the bolts were a bit loose so i moved the sensor as close to the mark as i could tightened it and well it made the idle perfect and drives like a beaut but this has conjured up a new problem SOMETIMES if you take your foot of the throttle the car shakes a bit, and has no power when you press the throttle again for a bout 5-10 seconds and then returns to normal but this only happens say once in a 3mile journey its very odd.

intermittent faults like this are almost always sensors, and in this case i think the throttle position sensor is most likely. a scrapyard replacment should cure it, costing roughly a fiver at most scrapyards.
