Topping up gearbox oil Bravo HGT

Hello forum,

Gearbox oil is leaking slightly (A patch about as big as your hand after a couple of days on the drive)....so not a shocking leak but needs to be fixed.

Cant get it repaired for a couple of weeks so I want to check the oil levels and top up whilst waiting for the repair to make sure I dont ruin the gearbox in the mean time.

I have no idea how to do this!....A few simple instructions would be helpful.

Also, what sort of gearbox oil does the car need?

Thanks for your help

Re: Topping up gearbox oil Bravo HGT

you need a fiat sump plug key (hex bit, cant remember the size)

take the filler plug off, pour oil i till it overlfows, replace filler plug.

you need hypoid gear oil API GL-5.

Re: Topping up gearbox oil Bravo HGT

Thanks for that.

What I really need to know is where the filler plug is actually located.

I am assuming under the battery?

Any help always appreciated

on the front face of the gearbox (so that means its on the side facing the front bumper, not the top)

As above.
Also, am guessing your leak will be from the driveshaft seal. Easy-ish if it is passenger side driveshaft but if it is from the drivers side driveshaft.

Re: Topping up gearbox oil Bravo HGT

You jack the front up as if you were changing the wheel, or stick it on a pair of ramps, crawl under undo the 12mm hex, get your 1 litre bottle of oil which has a wee straw type thing shove it in the hole and squeeze. Then invert the bottle. Ok so you'll end up overfilling as you can get the car flat.

Re: Topping up gearbox oil Bravo HGT

I need to give this a shot because my box feels very clunky and unhappy at the moment.

Re: Topping up gearbox oil Bravo HGT

No, but I didn't expect anything. I only checked as I was doing an oil change so thought it worth while. Am a bit surprised that it needed topping up
