Debadging went wrong! somehow?

hey i was debadging my car, using hot water and a ice scraper, it worked fine on all but 1 of the badges, which came off, but it left the glue on, and no ammont of autoglym intensive tar remover will get rid of it, so i think someone actually stuck that one on with superglue :P any idea what might get that off, sandpaper doesnt even work!

which also makes me think my cars been crashed, cos the door on that side is abit off, and its got ripples down the rear quarter pannel, but the front wing is perfect, with a superglued badge.. lol

Re: Debadging went wrong! somehow?

try the fishing line/dental floss method - get right in behind the glue with it, and 'saw' it off.

STOP! damaged paint is damaged forever, so planning and patience is required before you start another thread with several words like **** **** & ******

if someone has used superglue, you will need to get some acetone to remove it. this can damage the paint so apply it only to the glue and work it in carefully with cottonwool.

Re: Debadging went wrong! somehow?

Is it stuck hard or a bit soft and squidgy? If it's still soft, the tar remover will work eventually with a lot of work

You could always try a little bit of pure acetone but be careful with it - using too much, too hard can damage your paintwork. But it is good.

Re: Debadging went wrong! somehow?

its solid.. lol i'll have a go with some acetone stuff.. lol nail varnish doesnt work, neither did white spirit... failing that i'll do some fine sanding work, and just use some scratch remover to cover the glue that wont come off :P if i come to sell it i'll just stick a new badge back on.. lol

Re: Debadging went wrong! somehow?

pour a small amount of petrol on to a cloth and work in it..repeat the process until the glue has come off and then wash the paintwork. Unlike whitespirit and the like, petrol will not damage the paint work. I use petrol to take tar and everything off the paint work. i got the tip from a very good spray painter who runs a brilliant bodyshop.

try the petrol..its worth a shot!!

Re: Debadging went wrong! somehow?

tried to warn you

white is the best colour to repair yourself, get some dealer touchup paint, apply a thin coat, and then once dry (2days min) sand down to a smooth surface using 2000grit wet&dry (used wet). it'll be good as new in no time. metallic/pearl paints are impossible to do well, but white is very easy.

Re: Debadging went wrong! somehow?

well its not al my fault i went into focus and asked for acetone and they pointed me to locktite superglue remover.. lol

and i applied it with a cotton ear cleaner thing, really accurately, but it just took the paint off around it, and left the glue, so i left it over night, like it said, and it did losen up some of the glue, but it took the paint underneath with it, and now it just looks a a complete mess.. lol but only if you get close. (alteast theres not a big black "1.6 16v" mark now!)
and, its on the bad side of my car! wooh, i'm sure the right hand side of my car is cursed.
i'm getting some sideskirts fitted soon i'll get the guy who's doing it to sort it out quickly, he's really cheap, and good charges about £20 to do a spoiler
in the meantime, when i show off my car i'll park my side against something :P
