Hi guys, thought I'd run this little problem I'm having by you as it's driving me nuts!!!

I've got a 'w' reg Brava 1.6 16v Trofeo with 60k on the clock, during xmas I developed a very intermittant misfire and was experiencing the famous injector light issue... Initially it would ru fine on all four cylinders for around 3 days and then on the fourth, either from cold or whilst running, it would drop to three cylinders and I'd get the injector light on. This would las for a around a day or so and then it would go back to running fine on all four again!!!

I had the car serviced at my local Fiat dealer and asked them to check out the problem, which they did and reported that the #1 injector was faulty. Anyway having trawled around on here I checked the resistance of the injectors one night when it faulted and true enough one injector read totally open circuit, (infinite resistance). So I had a friend replace the #1 injector for me, but when he gave me back the old injector and I checked the resistance all read fine at 14.5 ohms!!!

Anyway all went well for about a week and then, hey presto, back to the misfire and the injector light. Once again I did the basic checks, plug leads off, resistance etc. and this time found cylinder #4 to be the culprit. Anyway through all the cold weather and snow last week the injector light was on pretty much constantly and the car was misfiring something chronic... Got back into it on Monday this week, after the snow had gone and the temperatures picked up a bit, and as if by magic the car has been running fine on all four cylinders again!

I was just wondering if anybody has experienced similar issues or whether there might be another explenation for my my problems, or whether the injectors are just so weak that the could develop internal dry joints on the solenoid where it joins the connector that it would cause them to break down in colder ambient temperatures!

Here's hoping someone has an answer that doesn't really mean I have to change the remaining 3 injectors to be safe..... :)

an infinite resistance result in the test indicates a wiring fault in the injector wiring harness (open circuit). the injector's connector may be dirty or insecurely fitted or corroded, or a wire may be damaged, either its insulation or internally.

you need to take it apart again and test the harness.
