Same usual powerloss problem 1.8 hlx p-reg

hi all, not only have i popped a tyre and had to replace my cam today im now back with the usual power loss ive been reading about on here. Bassicly, it seems to move off fine in 1st with a bit more revs, then soon as you hit 2nd it kangeroo`s then sorts it self out, another thing when your going say 30 for a while in 4th.. it starts to loose all power so you need to drop down to 3rd with higher revs to keep moving. On idle the car seems to vibrate alot, like the dash and stuff, not as if its cutting out but not too far off... another thing ive relised, my cat started ratting about, and i think its becuase of this, if you look under the car when its running the exhuast seems to rattle loads which probably knocked my cat out so badly. The guy at my garage put my new cat on and said it will do for now but the engine`s faults may cause it to break again,..... anyway to put this long winded post to an end, tomorow i think im going to try adding some new plugs and leads even though it doesnt seem to be missfiring so much but its worth ago, and if that doesnt work ill probably start crying like the rest of you bravo owners with the same problem it seems. Just to add too, i had it hooked up to the computer at a more local garage and he said it showed up with no engine faults and said the usual try changing plugs possibly... i did sort of look at one plug and it looked shiney, but im no mechanic so looking at a spark plg probably doesnt tell you much. anyway anyone know is scrappys are open on sundays? or where i can get some leads and plugs from. any advice would be appreciated as me and a few mates where hoping to go to inverness init on wednesday and i have a bad feeling about it ;/ cheers

Ive just changed the plugs to bosch ones, it seems a tad better but still seems kangeroo jump in second :(

HI THERE,SOUNDS TO ME LIKE YOU HAVE A DODGY INJECTOR!:(
IVE JUST HAD THE SAME PROBLEM,CAR SEEMS TO VIBRATE BUT IS MORE LIKE A MISFIRE! HAVE YOU EVER DONE THE PLUG TEST BEFORE TO DETERMINE WHICH ONE IS NOT FIRING?
WELL DO THIS AGAIN,BUT THIS TIME WHEN YOU PULL A PLUG LEAD AND THERES NO DIFFERNCE TO ENGINE,JUST PUT A SPARE PLUG INTO THE PLUG LEAD AND HOLD PLUG ON ENGINE TO EARTH IT AND IF IT FIRES THEN THAT INJECTOR IS MORE THAN LIKELY AT FAULT.
AS YOUVE ALREADY CHANGED PLUGS THEN THIS IS THE NEXT STEP.TO CHECK THE RESISTANCE OF INJECTORS,PULL THE PLUG FROM THE SAID WIRING LOOM AND YOU WILL SEE 5 PINS.THE MIDDLE IS THE EARTH AND THE OTHER 2 EITHER SIDE ARE THE INJECTORS.EACH INJECTOR SHOULD IDEALY READ 16 BUT THE BOTTOM LINE IS 10.
hOPE THIS HELPS!:D

hi, thanks.. ive replaced the plugs so i doubt its them, how much do injectors cost? if im searching say ebay for one what should i look for as i dont know what they are really... also my i cant seem to find any leads that look the same as mine on ebay.. they all look different as mine have two little bolts on the top to tighten them in, thanks for your reply

Hi there,im not familiar with the 1.8,mines a 1.6 16v mk2.
Anyway if you look where the inlet manifold is(should be opposite exhaust manifold). You should be able to see where the wiring loom goes for the injectors and where it plugs in.
As for you plug leads,i seem to remember reading somwhere that each plug on that engine has a coil on the top of it,but dont quote me on that.
Of course, injectors aside if there is 4 coils then one of them could be at faultAt least you could swap them over on different plugs to see what happens.
Let me know the outcome.:D

hi there, to be honest im not to good with engines, where do you think i could try buying them from? and also, where do you think i might get an injector from? ebay they all seem to be for 1.6`s
cheers

the 1.8 very rarely suffers injector failure. its only a problem on the 1.6. also the 1.8 does not have HT leads on the plugs. the 1.8 is far morel likely to suffer coil failure. each spark plug has a coil on top, directly connected to the sparkplug. these tend to fail on the 1.8, its fairly common. you can test the resistance of each coil using a multimter on the pins where the wiring connector plugs onto the coil. see my reply to your other thread. Finnaly got to the bottum of the problem, the guy who owned the car before me put a really tacky max power air filter onit, so i went to scrapyard and got the standard one, also my auxillary belt and tensioner needed replacing, its running like a machine now anyway!! ive found a reall good fiat garage too and they are better than my garage who failed to find the faults! cheers all
