I have a bravo 1.2 80sx on an X plate and i dont have a rear window squirter, you dont realise how much you need them when you dont have one!! Has anyone else got the same kind of car with a squirter or is that how they're meant to be??

this is very common. the problem is a small black plastic part that joins 2 water pipes. this plastic part is located in the engine bay.

at the back right of the engine bay (when looking in it) there is a black plastic cover on the fuse box. behind this there is a rubber sealing strip that goes all the way across the engine bay.

lift up the rubber sealing stip behind the fusebox and look for a thin plastic hose. pull this hose until you can see the black plastic part that joins it to another hose. this black plastic bit is where the blockage occurs. on my car i replaced it with a straight through join, that you can buy from any petshop for joining air hose in aquariums.

also note, to make the rear wash actually squirt you push the wiper stalk forwards (to wash the front you pull it back)

Also, and i'm not correcting you Jug, there is often the problem that the pipe has fallen off the connector on the wiper. A simple repair where you remove the trim from inside the the hatch back and reconnect using a bit of glue or, as i did, some silicon sealant.

good point i forgot about that (y)
its also very common

its best to check first, try using the rear wash, if your boot gets wet inside, or water dribbles out the tailgate, it means you need to reconnect the pipe.

if no water comes out anywhere you need to remove the black plastic crap thing. (or fill your water up :))

I'm not sure if the rear washer system may have some kind of pressure sensitive valve in it because i didn't get round to fixing the prob for a while and my wife spent ten minutes there one day trying to squirt it with no joy....but also with no water free flowing anywhere. As soon as i connected the hose the water shot out with no problems.
Could this be the case Jug?

hmm, thats strange, when my pipe fell out if just filled the boot with water.

at first i thought WTF is going on? then a drip hit me on the head from the tailgate and i though aha!

although the black bit i'm talking about in the engine bay is actually a pressure sensitive valve, its designed to allow water out in the event of a blockage. unfortunately the valve always blocks, often causing water to enter the fusebox when the rear wash is used. haha i love fiats

maybe my boot got wet because i removed this valve?

Possibly, i wouldn't mind hearing from a few other people who've had the "pipe off" problem and see if they had flooding.

you guys have totally lost me  where should the water squirt from because i dont have the little black bit with the 2 little holes in that i normally unblock with a needle anywhere on the rear end of the car, normally they are above the rear window pointing down but i have nothing at all there except the wiper :bang: and when the wiper stalk is pushed forward or back it squirts the front window either way :(

It's actually incorporated in the wiper arm. Sorry Hayley, while discussing the possibilities with Jug i forgot you had a problem .
My first advice would be to remove the trim (door card in the hatch back) and see if the pipe is still conected, this is a very common problem and easily fixable for anyone of any experience. If you establish that the hose is no longer connected, reconnect using some sort of adherant (i used silicon sealant whereas alot of others use glue) and you should have no more worries.
If the pipe is not disconnected then do as Jug suggests and check the valve in the indicated position.
I hope this helps, if not, post again.l;)

Yeah jug is bang on about the valve in the engine bay. but it does not block up the diafram inside it perishes. The valve is there because of how long the distance is between the tank and the back window. So their is a diafram inside it which lets water go through one way to stop it returning to the tank. so if it perrished the water in the pipe goes back into the water tank. so if that valve has gone if you keep on pressing the stick you will eventually get a squirt of water but not a powerful squirt Changed myn about 2 weeks ago and cost £1.80 and there a different design now so hopefully it won't go again.

And i have haed my water pipe fall off several times. I've glued the awcward bastard on now and it has not come off since.

I had a pipe leak at the rear and there was some leakage (it corroded the boot contacts and shorted the wiper motor), there wasn't any made it as far as the boot or dribbles anywhere. It's stopped working again but no leakage, will have to have another look sometime.

On my 1997 bravo I replaced both those valves ( there is one for the front wipers as well ) about a year and a half after I had bought the car because they got clogged.
They have not failed since.

I found them!! 2 tiny little holes an the arm of the wiper :slayer: A man at a garage pointed them out for me and said the rattle in the boot door will be the broken off pipe, thanks alot guys (y)
