I,m having intermittent problems with the key code light staying on, I have been told as well as the red key sensor there is a blue key one which is more likely to cause the intermittent fault I have, I was told it would probably be behind the ignition switch as it has to be close to the key, I removed the bottom cover but could see no sign of a sensor, anybody out there have any ideas?

there is a loop reciever aerial around the ignition switch lock barrel that picks up the key's code. this is the same for a blue or red key.

does your car refuse to start when the light comes on?
does the light come on with all keys, even the red one?

cheers jug if it stays on it doesn't matter what key I use but I could go to the car two days later and the light goes out and and it starts ok

ok, thats kind of good news. it tells me that the problem is not related to the key codes. the fact that the light remains on with the red key confirms this.

so i would be inclined to agree with the idea that it is most likely due to the loop reciever aerial. this could be a fault with the aerial, a wiring fault between it and the code box (black plastic bit in interior fusebox) or an intermittent fault with the codebox itself. also consider a wiring fault between the codebox and ecu.

you can replace the loop reciever aerial with one from a scrapyard. you can not replace your codebox in the same way as it is permanently coded to your red key (it can learn any blue key). i would firstly try wiggling the wires behind the codebox, and the loop reciever aerial.

cheers for that I will have a look at the fuse box connections, what colour wire is the aerial cable?
