(G) A strange thing happened

I have a 1.6SX 16v '97 Brava, on the way home today I was just traveling along the road, when all of a sudden the car seemed to loose power.

It appeared as if the brakes were momentarily being applied.

I pressed the accelerator but that didn't help, I dropped down into 2nd gear and the engine picked up, at the same moment as this was going on the oil pressure light came on and so did the battery light.

I would reckon that all the above happened in no more than 5 to 10 seconds.

In fact it's probably taking you longer to read this than the time it took for the incident to happen and be over with.

Anyhow, has anyone experienced this before? And is this an indication that something is about to go wrong with car?

Did the speedo twitch at the same time - like from the from the speed you were at then down to zero and back?

Didn't notice the speedo, but supposing it did is that and indication of something?

I'm keeping a close eye on things, hopefully it was a one-off; if it does happen I'll try to take more note of what's happening.

if the oil and battery light came on it suggests the engine electrics cut out and stalled the engine. cant think why that would happen.

Sounds to me like
your car has a bad connection, mine used to lose power when it was wet. turned out the earth from the engine was loose. and the damp just made it worse.
or you fuel pumps on its way out, or your tank was low and the fuel sloshing around created and air bubble.
Power to the HT or Sparkplugs loose.

Sounds to me like a engine cut out normally checking all conections and making sure that there nice and secure will sort little things like that.

You may have found the problem, I was doing the fuel injector test, listening to the engine while removing an HT lead. It could be that I've not quite seated one of the leads.

I'll also check the connections as you suggest.
