hi plz can anyone help

I have a y reg(2001),fiat Bravo 1.6 hlx, love the car, just got it back off my ex after 2 years.in that time it stood for a while and was never serviced.so i immediately did a oil and filter change,as it was well over due.and put some stp petrol treatment in the fuel tank to clean things up,jetsd etc,car running brilliantly never better, however only problem is a few days ago the eobd light came on and stopped on.and remains on when driven.but as i say the car runs great.spoke to fiat who said id have to 45 Quid for them to do a diagnostics on it to tell me whats wrong.however the receptionist at fiat told me to ignore the eobd light,as there prob aint a fault at all,and all they would probably do is reset it.

So was wondering if anyone could help, with some advise please.run it even though the eobd light is on,or if theres anything i can do myself to eliminate the light.
any help greatly appreciated
thanks

The engine management light is an indication that a diagnostic error has been logged, however probably not too important or you would have STOP or something similar. Probably just a hiccup and wants resetting, best to get a read and reset done and go from there. Not worth trying to do the reset yourself just for a one off.

there isn't an 'eobd' light on the bravo? do you mean the light that looks like a hose pipe squirting fluid? if so thats the fuel injection system fault light, or more commonly called the engine management light. it only comes on if there is a fault, 99% of the tme due to a sensor fault or failure. unlike most engine management lights, it can not be reset be the dealer or anyone else, it turns itself off automatically when the fault is fixed, the ecu will log fault codes, but these do not cause the light to come on in the same way they would on many other cars. if the light is on it means there is definately a problem with the signal recieved from at least one sensor. whihc one is pure guesswork, but its usually the lambda sensor is there is no noticable problem with the running of the engine. a diagnotic check will usually identify the problem sensor.

wow the 2001 models had a post cat lambda. i didnt know that. nice one T14086 (y)

so i guess when the light is on it means either the lambda or cat are having problems.

Same engine/set up as multipla 1.6 16v.

EOBD warning light is for emissions,so will come on if fault in EGR,misfire, lambda sensors, catalyst fault etc etc

In America cars have the EOBD warning light mounted on rear of car so police can see it & stop you(its illegal to drive a car knowingly with EOBD light on)not only that but connecting car to examiner(or vehicle specific computer)will tell operator when, distance since light on etc so you cant say "oh it only just came on" as the computer will tell police otherwise.
One further point of note is your dealer is responsible for maintaining your car for 10 years to comply with EOBD legistation...not financially responsible for it but they have a duty to inform you of error codes/possible potential forthcoming problems(cat breaking up/misfire that could lead to cat damage/sticky EGR valve etc)with your vehicle.
