| Hi Just wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction?? I often hear metal knocking in the engine area, especially accelerating up hill (pistons??).. I've been told that it could be due to the timing or cheap fuel... Is this easily repaired?? I really dont trust these garages, they can spot a novice a mile away!! Many thanks for any help...

| blessed are the apostates | Re: I think the timing is out on my s-reg bravo a metal tapping noise is very rarely due to the timing been out, because if the timing was out enough to allow the pistons to come into contact with the valves (tapping) it would cause damage to the valves and the engine would run rough and suffer power loss. your noise is more likely to be a worn tappet, noisey oil pump, worn bearing in the crankshaft, lack of oil circulation through the head, etc etc etc etc. the list goes on, if you can try to figure out where its coming from (left or right side, head or block) its easier to figure out what it is. | ||
