1. Make sure it has a Red Key and 2 blue keys.
2. Check the alarm and RCL working off the key.
3. Check the heated seats work and aircon if it has it.
4. Check rear wiper motor works, common fault.
5. Has the cambelt been changed, any records?
6. Check usual signs for wear and tear i.e tyres and suspension.
7. Check the clutch out for slipping.
8. Might sound silly but make sure all the lights work on the car and indicators as the stalks sometimes fail and cost £150 from Fiat.

Thats the main things i can think of. But obviously make sure its not been abused, if everything looks good and well looked after and the electrics are ok you should be ok with it for years to come.

check the abs light comes on when starting car and then goes off shortly afterwards, same for airbag light, and injection light. if any dont come on at all it may mean there is a problem that has been hidden by removing the light on the dash. if any stay on it means there is a fault, could be expensive. the airbag light is a very common issue and not a big problem, but can be used to haggle price down.

Check under for any crushing of the underside. There are specific points where the car should be jacked up and almost no garages seem to know this and they just throw their jack in wherever they can..
