Hey there, i'm sure if i was to contact Fiat i'd find this out but its easier to ask the pros on here

Does anyone know if i would be able to buy colour coded side mirrors? I've got the plain old matt black ones on mine but since the car is metallic black, thought it would look gorg with metallic black side mirrors.

They do exist on later/ higher spec cars, I have them :) Get some colour coded ones from a scrapyard (please note the use of that word there again) and if you can't find them locally in your colour, get some paint and lacquer and do it yourself :D

Let me tell you, if you were to ring Fiat wanting a part not from your model of car, it would be impossible. They won't tell you anything without your chassis number and since the model that corresponds to your chassis number didn't have colour coded mirrors, no you can't have them. Unless you faff about getting the chassis number of someone who did have them on their car  Or unless you get someone nice in the parts department, which is rare :)

Or someone with Eper who can give you the part number for coloured mirrors..

Of course once you have got around the problem of the guy in the parts dept wanting a chassis number, you then have the problem of him wanting £260 for the pair and they come in primer.

Crikey you're joking? time was when they didn't care what you stuck on your car. My husband had this problem, he's done his mk 5 mondeo up to look like a mk 6 whenever he saw a car with the bumper/grill etc that he wanted, he took down their registration number and quoted it when he rang Ford

LOL

wing mirrors are probably the easiest things to paint yourself. they dont touch any other painted parts so a slight mismatch of paint shades isnt noticable. a can of paint then a can of laquer on each one should do the trick nicely. the only problem is spraypaint tends to stonechip easily so a set from a scrapyard already painted in your colour would be the best option.

hey jug, you are a mine of information.

What a star !!!

I'd try your local scrap yards or Ebay. I got a set from a Marea to replace the rubbish ones on my Brava, I also got the centre console which has the switch for the electric mirrors, as well as being a big improvement in itself.

I guess its time to put them on. Ive been recommended a place to get the paint. Brown Bros, Not sure if they are nationwide or not.

Any tips on painting them ? I guess I use normal primer for the black bit and plastic primer for the mirror ?

i wouldn't paint the black bit, but if you do it is already painted black so you can just spray it directly after a good clean with sugar soap. no doubt some of the black paint will be coming off already and there will be a white powdery substance under the flaking paint, thats rust, but unlike iron oxide that is orange coloured the wing mirror bases are made from aluminium, so they rust white.

when painting the plastic mirror you should use plastic primer first, and smooth it over once dry with 1200 grit wet and dry, used wet and gently. it makes peeling and flaking far less likely in the future.

The black bit is flaky, hence the desire to paint it. So just give it a good clean and spray the top coat straight on, no primer or anything ?

If it's not already painted, use primer first. Problem with it flaking is it will continue and then your paint will flake :( You might be easier looking for some already painted mirrors and respraying them to your own colour (check out the classifieds for anyone breaking a Bravo/a).

any flaking bits need to be cleaned up, smoothed down and then treated using a rust treatment fluid or gel. most rust treatments can be painted directly after 15mins.
