can anyone tell me the difference between an airflow meter and an air mass metere been told the lack of power on my hgt could be either of these!!!! one costs around £200 the other bout £70 so you can see why i am worried bout changing the wrong one!!!!:bang:

mass airflow meter measures the (effective) mass of air entering the engine. thats used to calculate the correct mass of fuel required to get a complete burn.

to calculate mass an air temperature sensor is needed to measures the temperature of the air, the mass of air will vary depending on its temperature (cooler is more dense so has more mass)

the two sensors are both needed to calculate the required amount of fuel.

£200 is mass airflow meter, £70 is air temperature sensor

as always, i'd go to a scrapyard, you'll get both for £10. (y)

finding an HGT wont be easy, but there's loads of 2.0 5cyl mareas about, at least 3 in sunderland alone so i'm sure you'll find one

Thanks - apparently it is the air mass meter that I need (would be the more expensive one wouldn't it!!!) - have checked all the scrap yards etc within sort of 30 or 40 miles but no luck (most of them have never even had a 2.0 Marea in!!). Do you have contact numbers for any of the scrap yards around where you are if you think I might have more luck there, or do you know if they do mail order???:D

there's a blue HGT at Bell's Breakers in bishop aukland (last seen early july).
also there's a couple of 2.0 mareas at sunderland metals (last seen 3 weeks ago).
there's also a 2.0 marea which has been broken and parts put on the shelf at north east motor salvage (a couple of months ago now but probably still in stock).
yell.com will give you the details (y)

dont know if they'll do mail order but i dont see why not.
