 :bang: I have a problem with my airbag! The red light (for airbag) doesnt want to turn off, after i turn the car on. I went to a FIAT car service and they said that the main plate for airbag is dead...I am not so sure it can be only the problem with some bad connection at connectors (like in Renault clios case, where the connectors are under the seat). Namely my light has started to lit after i have washed and cleaned my car...So I would like to ask if anybody else had this problem...Does anybody has any wiring scheme of the airbag system (connection,mainplate,...- where it is in the car).

THX in Advance

My Fiat Brava 1.2 has the same problem. Has been going on for the past year or so. Apparently it's a faulty connector in the passanger seat. In our car it's right underneath the fabric of the seat so you can actually feel it. My father was sitting there and thought was a spring. Since then the light has been on...

To fix it, the mechanic said he would have to take the seat apart and that's not an investment I am willing to make. Could be you have the same problem, if not let me know what else it can be...

Cheers

In the glove box of my Bravo I noticed a small sticker with 'airbag recharge' and '06/06' on it IIRC, or something similar, will have a look tomorrow. Could this be the problem? Can I expect my light to be coming on soon?

Hey Friends thx for this information.s Namely i am repairing the entre car myself.....Once I will go and try to repair this problem in the meantime I had disconnected the light from the gauge pannel...so the light doesnt bother me anymore...But one of these days I will try this things that u told me Folks ;)

I dont know but it seems that this is the problem with airbags in all brands of cars..And we know that this is one of the most expensive things in car...

Thx for now... Does anybody has a wireing scheme of the airbags with all elements in the scheme....

Sincerely yours

Here you go. There are 25 or so pages on the airbag in the service manual.

The reason the light is on in my car, is because the sensor under the seat is damaged. It is a heat sensor that can recognise if there is anyone sitting in the passanger seat. Part of it is a plastic bubble, which in our case was pushed in, hence rendering the sensor useless.

Since it is of no use, the light is on because the computer recognises a defect. Sometimes these defects can be erased from the computer (reset) and the light will go off. You will need a mechanic to do that though, since they have their small computers that plug into the main airbag system. (behind the glove compartment)

It is possible that there was once a bad connection between the sensor and the computer. In that case the error must be reset in the computer for the light to turn off.

yeah and 15 mins after you drive away it comes back on, trust me it does, every time on every car. even if they change that magical yellow wire above the glovebox. dont even let them try its a waste of time. i pulled the LED out on my current bravo, yes thats right an LED, everything else was a bulb but fiat knew the airbag light would be on so much that a bulb wouldnt last so they invested in an LED. pratts

I have been in FIAT service and u should see those fellows...without diagnostics they are lost..ehhehe they told me that the main plate is dead...last time i had to tell them that it is not the temperature sensor that is bad but thermostat....at the end they realised that....so simply i have pulled the led out...and fnished

yep its the only long term solution to the airbag problem.

i dont blame them, everyone is lost without diagnostics equipment these days, so many problems are sensor/electronics related and there's so many sensors, so without diagnostics equipment most repairs would be guesswork.
(often like this forum lol)

not sure about this on fiats, but the passenger sensor on some systems can be simulated using a resistor of the correct value, as these work on a conductive foam sensor whose resistance changes according to the weight on it. but simplest way is to just get another seat surely ?

owen.

Hi Jug,
Hope you're still around to advise how to get to the airbag LED. I have just spent the afternoon removing the driver's seat on my Brava to find a white female cable end/connector under the carpet but there's nothing in the seat or anywhere else to connect it to. The airbag light has been on since I bought it 6 years ago and only now has it caused the car to fail the MoT.

The connector is for heated seats. Driver does not need a sensor as driver is always assumed to be there for airbag deployment.

Your fault is somewhere else.
Also the system on BravX/Marea does not self reset the light once it has come on, you will need a tester.

Thanks Neverth, by that I assume you mean get the ecu tested. Nevertheless having read that it is likely to come on again after 15 mins I'd still like to disconnect the airbag light altogether.

By tester I mean the coderader for airbag unit. Where the fault is -> possibly clean the connectors for it. Or just reset if somebody pulled the dash with battery connected.

Your car needs the 3pin cable/tester. See e.g. multiecuscan for info.
