He has drums now. Anything alse he need to get from the hgt if all this is possible? Master cylinder from the etc??? He has to replace the front discs and pads because they are worn and also change his koni yellows for something more BUTT pleasing jejejeje so u see this is a great opportunity excellent brakes and 4 excellent bilsteins!!!!!!! | blessed are the apostates | Re: bravo HGT complete brakes on 97 bravo 1.6 16v. i've had a good look at the HGT setup because i was considering the same thing when i had a 1.6. as far as i could tell the front and back suspension and brakes will change over fine. the front hubs look the same so you could probably get away with just removing the struts, calipers and discs and i expect they will fit on the 1.6 hubs no problem, i dont think you even need to change the brake pipes. the mounting points on the rear are in the same place so if you remove the full suspenison/brake setup it should bolt straight on, but the handbrake cable will be different, and im not sure the rear brake hoses would fit, to me it looked as though the best idea would be to remove the rear flexible brake hose with the rear calipers, and remove the handbrake cable. the 1.6 brake master cylinder should be fine, i cant see any advantage to removing the HGT one. remeber these brakes will be much easier to lock up under hard braking, and since the 1.6 doesnt have ABS it will depend on driver skill, especially in the wet. i once upgraded the brakes on a 1.3 escort and after the change it would lock all 4 whels with ease, not good when you slam the brakes on in an emergency, but good for taeching you how to control braking, if you live long enough to learn. | ||

| Forum moderator | Re: bravo HGT complete brakes on 97 bravo 1.6 16v. Let me know how you get on, if this is a relatively cheap and cheerful job it's something I'm interested in, rusty drums look awful and with the weight of the car I would like some firmer brakes behind it. An issue for me could be handbrake cable as the Bravo one may be different length to the Brava one, I'll have to check it out (unless someone knows off the top of their head).
