A friend just got a 00 fiat bravo, Theres a good few problems with it
Horn not working, Rear wipers/rear water not working and the annoying one is the constant clicking when driving.

If you lean on the wheel at all it just ticks very fast, also when you press in the horn it ticks and the horn doesnt work.

So i checked the fuses to the right side under the steering wheel and all is good but when i opened the panel the ticking was louder so i stuck my head under where the pedals are and followed the noise and found the ****er. You can even feel the thing ticking like mad!

I attached photos of it and found someone else on the forum saying it was the compressor relay for the A/C but the A/C is working fine the number on the ticking box thing is 12V 20A A727 581 7676504

So what the hell is this thing, how do i remove it? does it just pull out and anyone know why it would be clicking and do you think it will fix the horn at the same time?

Thanks to anyone for any information you can give, im a complete beginner when it comes to fixing cars so sorry if this is a simple question.

Paul

oh yea this is located at the back of the fuse box to the right hand bottom corner of the steering wheel. (fuse box A on the manual)

sounds like the stalk assembly needs changing. you can safely pull the relay out but a clicking relay is rarely faulty, when they break they stop clicking, if they click constantly is its usually a switch or wiring issue, like a short in the stalks. do either of the stalks get hot? that would be a good clue that they have an internal wiring problem.

Im not sure what a stalk is :) sorry .... but that black relay gets ROASTING hot when its clicking... and yea even when the car is off if you tap the steering wheel in any direction or even tap the horn (which doesnt work) it will click at about 4-5 clicks a second .... so like if you vibrate the wheel a little or if your in stoped at a light the ticking over of the car will make the thing just tick at about 4-5 clicks a second ... it goes through your head after a while :p

oh and what connections would i check on the fuse box, the ones it goes into or do you mean theres a fuse for the relay i should check... when i get my hands on it later ill take out the black thing and open it if i can without breaking it and check for rust/corrosion or anything out of the ordinary.

i would go with jug on the stalks(the arms that you push for indicators etc) but would remove the relay anyway and check the connections.
the relay will get hot as inside theres a little switch moving back and forward.
dont know how much they would befrom a scrappy but its a steering wheel off job to swap

ouch steering wheel off job sounds a bit much for a beginner :) so the stalks are the things that you push up n down for the indicator etc and turn for the water etc .... but everything apart from the rear wipers/water is working on the stalks... and even the rear water you can hear the water pump responding but just nothing coming out (after reading other posts im going to check connections at the back)

but when you press in the horn even slightly you can hear the ticking like crazy so even with all that do you think its still the stalks or could there be something horn wise or wiring in the horn that would be causing it? And is there a way to check any connections in the horn?

Oh one other thing which might help is the steering wheel is actually at a 20-25 degree angle for the wheels to be straight ... its not pulling to the side its just like the steering wheel wasnt put on straight :) Its actually the girlfriends car and she brought her dad along to check it out and i think he must have been asleep or drunk cause i duno how he missed all these errors.

steering wheel being of straight is from it being tracked off straight or the tracking being out of adjustment.
rear nozzle could be blocked or a split pipe

if you have no airbag a steering wheel off isnt hard though it means buying a big socket(cant remeber the size)
start small, remove the realy and check as above and remove the plastic cowling around the stalks and check the plugs are all tightly home.
always better to check the cheap/free stuff 1st

have you tried removing the horn fuse? if that stops the problem then it may be a damaged wire on the horn, most likely behind the steering wheel. im sure there's a wire fault somewhere, it can be a right pain to find but a good check of all connectors on the steering wheel and stalk assembly is definately what you need to do. its easy to remove the steering wheel, 2 allen bolts and one nut. disconnect battery 15mins before you remove airbag to prevent it from going off or switching the airbag light on (if it isnt on already) and dont reconnect it until everything is back together.

I definitly think its the horn, because shes only noticed that the fecking alarm doesnt sound :p it goes off but theres only a tiny noise :) couldnt hear it from about a foot away and it ticks ... so i really think its the horn ... ok so disconnect the battery, leave it 15-20 mins then i can mess witht he steering wheel without it opening and then dont reconnect the battery till everythings perfect.

I duno how to or what the airbag light is tho :)

if you do anything to the airbag system with the battery connected (such as removing the airbag) you will turn the airbag light on, thats a little red light on the dash that says airbag. it can only be switched off using a diagnostics computer which costs money. only reconnect the battery when everything is back together and you should have no problems.

Well changed the relay and the ticking is gone, the horn is working and the alarm is working ... then read another thread and took jug's advice and found the relief valve beside the fuse box and took it apart and it was full of crap put it back together and the rear wiper water is working perfect... And now checking scrap yards for rear wiper motors ... there charging 50euro over here in the scrap yards for a rear motor ... thats about 36-38 sterlin... i think thats a ****ing rip off!

But thanks to everyone here and especially jug for the water one :) you'se are absolute legends!

wene a scrap yard is ripping you off rip them off the scrap yard up from me wanted to charge 30 quid for a wiper motor on my old mk1 golf and that was with me removing it so i took a bag full of tools down their removed the wiper motor put it in my bag told the guy on the counter it wasnt any good and i left with a perfectyl good order wiper motor i know this is kinda shop lifting but scrap yards are a joke sometimes

we all do it, pocketing a bottle of pop from the corner shop, hiding some new clothes under yours in a changing room, robbing OAPs as they leave the post office with their pension, pulling an exhaust off a tasty motor, or beating a prostitute with a brick and taking her crack, its all good as long as your getting.

seriously though i do punish scrapyards that over quote me, but i tend to pay for one item and steal the other 2. that'll teach them!

its all fun and games until big dave catches you, then you find out whats in the big shed. i'll give you a hint, its big.
