Whoops Looks like you'll be fighting with the guy in the Marea section over a decent Marea bumper Always worth adding this to Classifieds, as above.

Re: HGT Bumper needed

Thanks all. I'm not gonna go for the Marea bumper as I like the HGT one, although I may be doing just a little modification to make cleaning it less of a chore.

Thankfully, I am a lazy swine so the Marea Polys that I bought 8 months are still safely tucked away in the garage.

As you'll see from the BOO thread the guys are really pulling together for me on this one so hopefully all will be well soon. Still, it may be going on insurance as long as the quotes I get don't make it an economic write off risk. No way is Shabash! going to be stripped and left to rot in a scrappers!

Re: HGT Bumper needed

Just to keep you non-BOO peeps in the loop: -

Estimate from FIAT has come in at £1556 for the repairs and as the other guy is claiming his exhaust is damaged I'm going to have to go via insurance. I think I can take ~£600 off that quote by not doing the stuff that really isn't required (aircon condenser has been quoted but is fine and I can supply the headlamps as I have a set of Polys waiting in the garage) so she may still survive.

Looking at autotrader (18 155s found national) average asking price is £2414 so she may be OK. If not I guess I'll just have to buy her back and fix her up myself. Parts are witing and the offers of help are flooding in from the BOOzers to help fix her up.

Re: HGT Bumper needed

a write off could be a blessing is disguise, its always far cheaper to fix things yourself, and buying it back as a write off will be cheap. as you say there's plenty of people who can help with parts and advice. if you arent going to go down the write off path i'd also offer to fix the other guys exhaust yourself to avoid going through the insurance at all, there's no point paying more insurance for years to come if you dont have to. any reasonable person would allow you to fix the exhaust at your own cost to avoid any insurance claim, sell it to the other guy as a way to avoid his car going on the damage repaired register

Re: HGT Bumper needed

If you are planning a writeoff make sure you submit some good quotes for the price of your car. I was offered £1700 but after haggling and submitting quotes for other cars I got it to £2500.

Already on it chap, hence the autotrader search. Had the same issue with my Punto many years ago. Offered £1250 and ended up with £2150 due to throwing a tantrum.

@ Jug - I appreciate what you're saying but unfortunately I'm a principled fella and I'm convinced the guy was trying it on. Going to sneak round there later (hmmm, very principled, lol!) to have a shufty at his exhaust. My feeling is that he is chancing his arm as there is no way in hell I could have hit his exhaust. If he wants to go the insurance route that's fine and they can tell him it's not happening. As it goes I'm gonna have to let insurance deal with it as I just don't have the money kicking around. Also, I plan to be living abroad fairly soon so the hike is not so much of an issue.
