| Site Sub Admin | exhaust fixed - but another problem I thought this might cost a pretty penny. I took my car into ATS today cos my exhaust was making a right racket. I guessed it was a bracket that had snapped. So told them what i thought it was when i took it in. Turns out it was a bracket and they fixed it there and then gratis They also said my exhaust was in good condition so wouldnt need changing for a while. There has been a clicky noise coming from the front end, i knew about this and was going to get it sorted when my car went for a cambelt change and service next month. They said they think it might be the water pump thats making that noise?! Does that sound about right, it is getting a bit louder now, but I dont know if its safe to leave it till i get the cambelt and service.

| blessed are the apostates | Re: exhaust fixed - but another problem a "clicky noise" can be the water pump, but just as easily the oil pump, or a worn tappet, or less likely but also possible is worn bearings in anything with a moving pulley, a loose or damaged ht lead which clicks when it sparks, electrical components such as injectors can click, relays can too. i guess it does it when the car is both stationary and moving, and the clicking increases in speed as the engine revs rise? if thats the case its usually oil or water pump or tappet. to decide which one you should stick a piece of hose pipe in your ear and then point the other end as close to the water pump as you can, then as close to the oil pump, then as close to the tappets, see where the click is loudest. i'd hope for water pump becuase thats cheap and easy if you're getting the timing belt done, oil pump isnt a major job, neither is a tappet, so dont let it worry you. however if its getting worse you may be nearing the point of failure. if the oil or water pump failed it wont take long for the engine to overheat. i'd be keeping a close eye on my temp gauge just in case. | ||
