lack of back presure from nackered exhaust :)
Does this really happen because of a broke exhaust!!!
Can please someone explain to me?
Thankyou.

this thing with back pressure depends on the engine, if you were about to spot it could pickup a bargin car.

i know my 999cc uno doesnt need back pressure, dunno about the 2.0 20v tho

could explain why that bravo someone looked at was slow? is it noticable by sound? caused by hole in the exhaust i assume?

well my HGT is slow as fook when my exhaust blows and to be honest its not always noticeable if you dont know what you are ment to be listening for

i know my car suffers from the worst case of a poor exhaust, you can actually feel the pressure building up at different revs and escaping at others

i made a straight through exhaust for my 1.6 bravo (downpipe back) and it didnt like it one bit. i've made exhausts for several cars and never seen an engine where back presure made so much difference in my life. putting the cat back on made a bit of difference but i ended up going back to the full original exhaust which improved performance and fuel economy a lot.

still i wouldn't assume samanthacooper's car is going slow for that reason, there are loads of others that could cause the same problem, the obvious ones to check are blocked air filter, stretched or frayed accelerator cable, sticking throttle body, blocked fuel filter or pump or leaking fuel line, spark plugs & leads, coil, injectors, sensor failures, head gasket, valves, piston rings, blocked exhaust, leaking exhaust, timing belt slipped, overheating damage, etc etc etc.

to make a more educated guess i need more information. what model, year and milage is your car, are any lights illuminated on the dashboard, does the car idle (tickover) fine, does engine temperature make any difference to the problem, did the problem occur gradually or suddenly, have you noticed any change in fuel economy, have you check engine oil level and coolant level?

just noticed this post https://www.fiatforum.com/showthread.php?t=60890 in which you say your exhaust is sounding more 'beefy' than usual, thats a good clue that your exhasut may actually be the cause. i'd get that fixed before you try other things. exhausts aren't cheap on these cars, i replaced mine with a 2nd hand one i got from a breakers for £100, that included everything, even the lambda sensor. it wasnt even rusty. i got quoted 380 for a new one, which is wrong in so many ways!!
