Hi guys,

I recently bought a 2010 Bravo 2.0 Multijet Sport. The car runs smooth and I'm quite pleased with it but it seems to have some issues during startup.

When starting up, it cranks for quite alot of time until it fires up and sometimes it seems like it wants to fire up but continues cranking.

The car has just 40.000 miles done with it in total. It might've been used only for short trips and that might caused some deposits around the engine, I do not know. I'm using BP Ultimate Diesel all the time.

What do you think could be the problem? Should I be worried or is it a easy fix issue?

Thank you,

Andrei

With a diesel engine difficulty at start up usually comes down to heater plugs or injectors (injectors may be worn). You can always try removing and cleaning the EGR, though to be honest, that would cause the car to be sluggish and smoky as opposed to difficult to start.

Before you go rushing off to buy parts It'll probably be worth your while asking for a second opinion at a workshop - particularly one that specialises in diesel engines.

40,000 miles is nothing. There'll be very little wrong with your engine. But, go for a second opinion - somebody who knows.

could be as simple as a new battery, diesel engines wait for a certain crank speed before firing the injectors at startup, a tired battery might not be able to satisfy this requirement. Try with jump cables or a booster pack, see if it makes a difference.
also, wrong bravo section.

Thank you for the reply! Before the car was ready to be taken home, they put a new battery in but to be honest it's not the amp rating I was hoping for. Seems quite a small battery.
Sorry for the wrong section by the way :) will take care next time

Thinking of checking with a car shop near me and see if there are any issues. Engine bay looks brand new and everything is very silent to be honest. No black smoke or missfires. Will check :) Thank you for the reply!
