Hello all,

im back with some major engine repairs done to the 1.4 mk1 (n).

fixed(turned head/tails) in the ring wheel of the car. now the car is starting fine as it should without any cranks in the engine. it was not a prob in the starter motor.

re did the clutch-plate. spent like a week to get used to the newly lined clutch plates.

removed gearbox and changed the oil, and lower arm/suspension bush issues and all.

removing the gearbox and ring wheel seems to be a pain in the *** (n)

removed the thermostat from the radiator as it was blocking the coolant and the car gets hot easily due to the thermostat not working properly.

serviced the alternator.

btw for all who helped me in finding a windscreen from UK, we did :), but couldnt ship it because of the costs, i brought a singapore one down from a local windscreen shop hehe (y)

aaand the only downside now is the fuel consumption. it does like 7km/l in the city with AC on.

also, is there a factory fitted AC switch that comes with the bravo mk1 dashboard? just asking because i have mounted a custom switch to turn on/off the AC.

I'm not hugely mechanically savvy but if you've just removed the thermostat rather than replacing it with a working one then these 2 may be related. Effectively it may running in cold start fuelling all the time?

Hi thanks for the input, but i only removed the radiator thermostat, not the engine one :idea: anyways thanks for that, il ask around from the mechanic (y)

I would suggest you look up what a thermostat does perhaps here, also buy a working one and fit it. It regulates your cooling system it sounds like the old one had failed closed causing over heating. Now you've removed it there is nothing regulating the coolant system your engine will be over cooled and this could lead to excessive fuel consumption.

haha i read that just after i posted my comment :D yes will find a good one and fit it back. but again i dont want to blow my engine off with overheating, and the engine heats normally without the thermostat (i have tested it in traffic and long journeys with AC, and the indicator is at or a just passed the half way mark). it was worse before (n)

If the system is otherwise healthy a new thermostat shouldn't cause overheating, if it does and the new one is a known good part you have other issues.
