Good morning everybody,

I have a seized rear brake caliper on my HGT, I've ordered a replacement but I seem unable to find the size of the bleed nipples anywhere!

Can anyone tell me what size bleed nipples I need for the bravo front and rear calipers?

Hi,

I'm not sure why you need the bleed nipple sizes... are you just wanting to replace the older ones on the car as a matter of course?

Anyway I have found that Bravos (and Tipos etc) seem to have the same bleed nipples all round... front caliper, rear (drum) cylinders, etc. Some motor factors will have a selection.

I have a spare that is 25mm long overall, with an 8mm wide hex section and a 7mm wide thread. The length of the threaded section (from base of the nut until the finished tip section (i.e internal bleed hole) is 10mm.

I tip to dislodge siezed nipples before to shear them off os to whack the head into the caliper with a hammer, it can distort them but will often dislodge them.

Thanks for the reply,

I just have a seized bleed nipple on one of the rear calipers, thought I would get them for all round the car in case I needed them.

Also, I didn't want to try anything to drastic to release it until I had a spare!

Thanks again for the reply

7mm fronts, 8mm rears. always soak em in DW40 before even touching them.

If they fell like they will slip, take a wire brush to them until you see clean metal. Soak them for at least 1 hour in DW40 aft wards they should spin off easily, if you have rounded, them use a metal file to reshape them.

soak them -YES (y)-

BUT use a penetrating fluid ( plusgas ETC,)
not something designed to remove sticky labels:rolleyes:

I always use a deep socket, after a SOAK , and a sharp tap with a hammer on the head of nipple,

Charlie

Intresting way of doing it. I always like to find new ways of dealing with these things, been in the wars for 20 years with these bloody things, on different trucks and cars. Spinning wire brush, heat and vibration usually does the trick, and penarating fluid. I try the Hammer next time see if they spin off easy.
