I'm going to change the usual things, marea centre console, door handles, headlights. Was wondering if the Elliptical lights are in all models or just the top spec ones ?

Are there any other bits worth looking for while I'm trawling the breakers ?

Do any of the higher spec or other models have thicker anti roll bars, that are swappable ? What about brakes, any models I should look for to get bigger brakes from ?

Ah good idea, I drive a Saab 9000, lol

but Im getting a Brava TD100SX, yeah heavy oil :p

The eliptical lights are only in the Marea HLX and ELX

I had a td100sx it was a heap of Sh!t, not to say they all are but my god I picked a bad one, replced engine, replaced fuel pump, replaced ecu. Never regretted selling my tipo so much, Hint if it sounds rough it is rough.

Biggest brakes and roll bars are off the coupe. Brakes will have to be off a 16vt, and roll bars off the 20vt, ARBs will fit ok, brakes if the spacing on the hub is the same then there will be no probs you need discs and calipers. I personally would foget the td and get a jtd 105 (sure they made this version - bit rusty now)

Thats right Hellcat (I think) a mechanical pump, so while a jtd would have been better tuning wise, its what I have, for now at least.

I hear what your saying sediciRich, tbh from what Ive read about Fiats the last few weeks, thats how they are, every single model of Fiat. Its either good or bad, luck of the draw. You were unlucky enough to get a sh!te one, I got lucky. (y)

I am really impressed with it and enjoy driving it, everything feels nice, and its surprisingly quick for a derv. Even at 80-90 it still has plenty of punch when you give it more throttle.

I think with a little modding it will be a great car, but the next one will have to be mappable. I like the idea of a Brava with a 2.4jtd in it.

Thanks for the pointer on the bits, I'll see what I can find.

If you get bored of it send it my way :D

The engine in TD tipo is still fine. Sounds like a tractor but is getting better all the time. For some reason diesels get better with age. Not sure if this is the same for JTD's. Shame the car is falling apart slowly around the engine. Need to cure its oil cooler leak before taking it back to Mr Clutch and telling them its not leaving until its gear change is smooth!

BTW.. could you have a look at your TD and tell me if it has a oil cooler? If it does then I might be able to get one from a scrap yard instead of the 170 quid job from fiat.

Yes it does have a oil cooler, I was having a look under it yesterday seeing whats what, like you do. :p Its on the drivers side next to the rad, the mirror image of the intercooler on the other side.

hell cat you wont need an oil cooler you have an oil to water heat exhanger.

td100 does have an ecu but you are right the mechanical pump is the main control of the fuel, the ecu I believe is only there to make my life misserable with code and injector errors, its no common rail thats for sure. All I know is theat it had to be reprogrammed as it would run fine for miles and it did on the new engine, all of a sudden it would sulk for no reason judging by the smoke it was running lean - injector light was on.

I was just searching for some info on front discs and came accross this thread. I cant believe nearly 7 months have gone by and ive made so little progress. :(

Ive lowered it, put 17's on and fitted polys. Thats about it.

Just bought a 20v Marea HLX though and removed the mirrors, door handles and centre console. I'm going to fit the rear discs too, which leads me to my question.

Are the front discs on the Marea bigger than the ones on my car, and if so a direct swap ?

They should swap, they are larger and clearance between your wheels and discs should be checked - side clearance obviously since you have 17" wheels! I think you only need the calipers, pads, discs and caliper holder - if that doesn't line up with the holes then you will also need the hub carrier and heat shield.

I'm guessing you are breaking the Marea HLX? Not swapping parts between :p

Yeah 7 months.. Never did steal your oil cooler :p

Thanks Hellcat.

Yes the Marea is breaking, but I was thinking I might have to put some of the bits back on to keep it rolling. Thinking about it again I dont think I will.

im nearly running out of marea bits to stick on my bravo. something i noticed recently is the different strut to hub mounting bolts. on a marea hlx they are more heavy duty bolts than on my bravo hlx. nothing around them looks different, just the bolts and nuts. why do they need to be bigger, obviously the extra weight and power will increase the load on the bolts, so shall i assume my bravo's bolts are designed to be only just adequate for the car and arent good enough for a marea- in which case i'd like to change mine for some marea ones, better safe than sorry- and now im starting to wonder, what else is only just adequate for the car?? who knows, maybe my next "mod" will be a full set of marea bolts. or uprated "fast road" bolts as i shall describe them on ebay for £12.99 a set :D

i only noticed because i threaded one of mine so i took it to a scrappy so i could make sure i got the right one, the first fiat i tried was a marea 2.0, when i checked the nut and bolt on the marea it was bigger, the 2 sockets i brought with me didnt even fit on it, i had to find a brava to get the nut and bolt from instead. maybe i just happened to find a marea with bolts that had been changed from the original ones who knows?? it definately had bigger ones on.

I'm a bit lost here, its been a while since I had a hub apart. Which bolts are you two talking about, the one big one sticking out of the strut that holds the brakes and everything on, or the four that clamp the thingy* to the actual strut ?

Which bits do I want for the front, I was thinking undo the big nut in the middle of the wheel, then remove the disc and calipers etc. or do I want to undo the 4 nuts/bolts (like you would to remove the strut to change the springs) undo the roll bar, steering and track control arm and take the whole lot from the bottom of the strut ?

* = technical term that escapes me. :p

There are 3 bolts which hold the strut top mount to the wing

2 bolts which bolt the strut to the hub carrier.

1 pinch bolt which holds the hub carrier to the lower arm.

4 that hold the lower arm to the lower chassis.

Marea specific
1 nut which holds drop link to strut
1 nut which holds drop link to ARB.

Bravo/a/tipo specific
1 nut which holds drop link to lower arm
1 nut which holds drop link to ARB.
