Hi,
I have a fiat bravo 1997 1.4 litre 12 valve car.
I have two main problems:
1) The fuel consumption is extremely high; when i first start the car raw gas comes out of the exhaust, i can smell a very strong gas odor mostly when it first starts, and it goes on even after it is warmed up, but with less intensity.

2) I have a problem with its acceleration especially when it is fully warmed up. When i press the gas pedal, there is a delay and then after that it seems that it will accelerate then another delay, then eventually slow acceleration happens. the delay becomes longer the more i press the pedal down.

I have tried almost everything, I paid all my money to fix this problem but nothing happened. I replaced the oxygen sensor, the air filter, the fuel filter, the timing belt, the spark plugs along with their cables, the exhaust system. I cleaned the injector using ultrasound at its company, and replaced its cascades. The ECU doesn't show any errors in its memory, everything seems normal. but nothing changed...

I am in desperate need for help. Thank you in advance...

So what mpg are we talking here when you say it has high fuel consumption? The 1.4 engine Bravo slurps the juice like no other.

Oxygen sensor change would be my first favourite as it would also explain the hesitation on acceleration (you did replace with with a new one didn't you?)but if you've changed that already and you're happy with it then as long as the air filter is clean and the ECU reset then you may just have a typical 1. 4 thirsty beast.

People have chewed their own leg off trying to make the 1.4 more economical but it's a petrol slut
