So the rainy season has started here and I recently notices a small puddle of water in the middle of the carpet in the driver side footwell (rhs), the floor carpet is also quite damp but not flooded, the water seems to be coming somewhere behind the dash/fusebox/speedometer, I already removed the plastic stuff in front of the windscreen to be able to clean the drain holes and check for any obvious places where water might come in but everything looks solid. Any ideas where the water might be coming from as I don't feel like tearing the whole dashboard apart....

hi again,

general info ( NOT Bravo specific)
water sitting in the scuttle ( under wiper motor ) will find it's way in through cable routes,
mounting holes,etc.. so if you had ANY trapped water then that's it,

around windscreen corrosion can lift seals also,

another favourite is the sunroof/ aerial leaking into the roof void,

Charlie

Hi and thanks for your reply, I already taken out the the plastic above the wiper motor, no water seems to sit there, the two drain holes are clear and seem to be doing their job properly. There are no cracks/holes/anyway of water to penetrate as far as I can see, the closest cable route is far too low for water to be able to get in there with the bonnet closed.

The windscreen is my main concern, I am starting to re-seal it all the way round to check if the windscreen is the culprit.

The car has no sunroof so thats not an issue and the aerial was recently re-mounted/cleaned and re-sealed, and the roof lining would be wet by now if that was the problem.

Thanks again for your help

Maybe its getting in through the door somehow. Or the wing mirror.

I did read about someone, cant remember what type of car but he had damaged the membrane you get on the inside of the door (like a plastic sheet held with glue around the edge) water was hitting the back of his speaker inside the door cavity then dribbling around it and into the car.

Perhaps its coming in at the rear of the car and just pooling up at the front? I noticed the seal on one of my rear quarter windows had broken at the top, I put some silicone around from the inside.

The water is clearly coming in somewhere along the firewall, a friend just came by and told me to check the air vent as its a common problem if you dont have the proper slider thing for the air filter, which I don't.... so I'm trying that for now.

Firstly, I'd be 100% sure it is rain water. As it could be heater matrix issues. If the water doesn't feel slippery then it's probably more like to be rain water.

If that's the case I'd go by process of elimination. Drain plugs clear? Sunroof? Aerial Point on roof?

The Drain plugs can get lodged with leaves and crud. Worth checking and clearing those.

Sunroof - does your have one? If so suspect the seals. Water will find the lowest point to seep to.

Aerial Mount Point, again on older Bravo/a's this can be problematic.

The next suspicion would be door, side windows, or front windscreen seals. It may be worth investing in a smoke machine. On a dry day, pump the car full of smoke, and look for where it's seeping through (by checking for whisps of smoke).

:)

I think I sorted this, water was definitely leaking from the cabin air intake hole as the foam piece that seperated from air coming in from the outside or recirculating from the cabin was soaking wet after it rained. So for now I found a square jewlerry case which is just 5mm larger than the hole and sealed it so I don't take in any water until I am 101% sure thats the only place its leaking from. I will eventually install some pvc elbows on the jewlerry case for intaking air from the outside, ghetto I know, but it is supposed to work as its suppose to.
