Hello all

I've a year 2000 Bravo HGT 155, which kindly stranded me on Monday when the crankshaft sensor failed.

Replacement is pretty straightforward - and even a genuine part was only GBP 25, which was a nice change ;) - but one small question is whether it needs an O-ring? The old one had one fitted, but I note there is no reference to an O-ring in workshop manuals (Fiat, Haynes, Porter) nor ePer. I've refitted the old ring, but my car has never idled terribly well - and still doesn't, even though it now starts at least - and I was just wondering if removing the O-ring might help in some way? But obviously I don't want an oil leak...

Just in case anyone had done this job before, with or without O-ring....

Thanks!

Hey Nick Yeah it should have an o-ring. Ive seen two new sensors and they both came with one. I guess the crank sensor will explain a lot of the problems you had, with it still idling bad have you tried unplugging the MAF sensor and seeing how it drives?

OK - thanks for that. I was starting to suspect the MAF sensor though previous issues I've had with these have tended to affect on-power response rather than idling. But I have a spare MAF so I might swap it - and have a good look at the throttle body while I'm at it.

Starting to believe that old joke that the only things that go wrong with Italian cars these days are the German bits... (Bosch electronics...) :D
