Hi All,
I have a real problem with my 2002 1.9jtd.
mad.gif

The engine will start and run fine but it will cut out after about 30 seconds to a minute. As the engine cuts there is a 'Click' from the passenger footwell area .
.
Codes checked and NO faults are stored.....but the red injector light is on ALL the time on the dashboard.
.
When the OBD data is viewed in 'live' mode Both the IAT and the ETC are 215 Degrees Celsius with a ? next to them, which is a crazy reading

.I have replaced the crankshaft position sensor with a new Bosch part and it has made no difference..
.
I have just disconnected the 4 wire plug to the coolant sensor and also the MAF sensor....and redone the scan......The electric cooling fans roared into life...but the ETC and IAT still read 215 Degrees Celsius
.....the MAP reading is 225kpa which is 2.5 Atmospheres !
.
Any suggestions ??...Broken ECU ??

Faulty earth between ECU and engine block?
Better open and clean all connections.

Did you use some generic OBDII reader?
If you did, give it a shot with multiecuscan, the free version supports the JTD engine.

Hi Neverth,
Thank you for the suggestions..... Please can I ask where the earth is between the ECU and the block ?
.
I have pulled out the 2 large connectors of the actual ECU itself and all the connections look clean, dry and un-corroded.
.
I used a Vgate Scan VS 600 to read the codes....I have not heard of the ' multiecuscan' please can you add more information?
Thanks :)
.

A second with google: http://www.multiecuscan.net/
Used to be called FiatECUScan, so try to guess what it does.
I've used a cheap USB-KKL with it, you can find those cheap everywhere on the net.
Also tried ELM327 bluetooth, but windows is complete crap with bluetooth.

Some sensors have their own ground cables form sensor, and the fact that it runs 30seconds suggests the power should not be an issue.
Usually the ECU mounting serves as a groundconnectoin to the chassis.

I thought the OBDII cars did not have the injetorlight, but the image of and engine...
Older ones with the 3-pin fiat connection shold only have the red injetorlight?
I might be wrong, havent seen OBDII diesel bravos/mareas.

Hi nevereth,
Sorry yes I googled the 'multiscan' after I asked...
.
The red light that is on the dashboard is permanently lit once the ignition is switched on, it looks like a 'nozzle' spraying from top right to bottom left so I think that it looks like an injector... I believe that it indicates an engine management fault... but none are stored in the OBDII ....so I am truly puzzled as to what it can be. I am using a Vgate Scan VG600.
.
I see from a 'Pin out' of the ECU that there are several 'earth' wires but surely they cannot simply go directly to 'earth' or Fiat would have saved money by connecting inside the unit and only having the one single earth wire.
So possibly the description of 'Earth' may actually mean to a specific component

my 105 JTD was the earliest ( in the world) model,1999.

that definitely had the "injector symbol",
pretty sure the rating was 110 JTD in 2000 , and the 115JTD was the last around 2002,

what is the power designation of your car?,

trying to find if it was a late registered "older model",

Charlie
