Hello,

This is my first post after looking for some advice

Recently, i have brought a fiat brava 1.2 16v.

But after driving for about 10 minutes, the car seems to have a bad idle and stall when i come to a stop.

Also while driving the vehicle the car has poor acceleration and struggles and splutters..

when the car is in neutral the car revs to 2000 rpm, then loses power and drops to 900 - 600 rpm and then engine struggles and stops

I have recently changed the spark plugs an Crank sensor...

I have no engine lights come on either..

Starting to lose my nut with it,

So any help would be greatly appreciated

Regards
Ian

Hi Ian,
and welcome to the forum, (y)

so the engine management light does not come on..?,
does it illuminate during the bulb-test at start-up..??

I think your rev-related issue is quite commonly the MAF / Throttle body,
but that often happens when first starting.. is yours only when it gets warmed through..??,
maybe do a search of "throttle-body" = in the Punto section ( same tech),
pretty sure there is a "how-to" in the guides too..!!, :)

Charlie

Thanks for your reply charlie

The light does come on when the turn the engine over..

Erm.. the fault tends to happen once warmed up.. and when you press the accelerator whilst drivng, it tends to lose power

does it semm to be using a LOT of fuel..??,
just owndering if a temp sensor is dead , and the car does'nt know it's got warm and is still driving "as if the CHOKE is still on",

getting codes read is the best proper solution..,
did you read about throttle body faults..??,
Charlie

To be honest on the fuel, i can only drive it for a couple of miles and the fault kicks in.. the after you tried to restart the engine it start fine, then the engine idle got from 1500 rpm to stall whilst not in gear...

did you read about throttle body faults..??,

Not had chance, do you have any you reccommend i read?

getting codes read is the best proper solution..??

Where would i got to get these?

As i have not engine or error lights come up?

Regards
Ian

Also, to get the engine ticked over now, i have to press the accelerator

cheers

hello charlie,

today i have cleaned out the throttle bay, still the same

also on closer inspection, the engine light does not come on... eeeek

cheers ian

Hello Charlie,

When i started the engine, should the stepper motor open up the butterfly valve?

because it remained closed until i pulled the accelerator cable

cheers

Thanks for your reply Ming

IF this happens even when engine is cold. I would say it could be map sensor (if it uses the same inlet as the punto mk1 1.2 16v)

Could you give me a idea where i could find this sensor?

If only warm, then it could be lambda sensor!

Ive not tried a new lambda sensor,

Ian

again i am not sure if it's same as the punti 1.2 16v (althought) it is pretty much the same engine, it might uses a different inlet.

Mine is at the driver side near the timing belt. If you take a picture of your engine bay i could may be help point it out?

Thanks
Ming

ok ming, ill give it a run about and see how she drives and update

thanks

hi ming, i have took the car out, the idling problem happens whilst cold and warm,

i just took it to 70mph and seem ok, feels like there is a little hold back in power and struggles at times

ok, I would buy the map sensor. And undo the negative battery terminal for like an hour or so. Then try.

Is a bit of a guess work but it will only cost you £20 and 10 mins of your time.

Worth a try i think. As mine was the same, it will hold back at low rev, at high rev it will be perfect.

Thanks ming, im going away for a week this weekend, soo will try it when i come back and keep you up to date

thanks for all your help soo far

cheers

hello ming,

i decided before i purchased the sensor, just to check it, i took it of yesterday and it was covered in oil? would this damage the sensor?

also that link you sent me for the map sensor, it says it doesnt fit on the fiat brava 1.2 only the 1.6

cheers
