Hi there and thanks for looking at my post.

I have a Bravo HGT that my girlfriend has been using for the past few months. A couple of months ago we started experiencing an intermitant fault where we weren't able to select gears. You'd be driving normally, go to change gear and be unable to slide the lever and be stuck in neutral. After a couple of minutes or a few pumps of the clutch you could slip the lever in and continue.

Anyway, two days ago it came to a head and now it is not possible to select a gear at all unless the engine is switched off. If you select a gear and start the car with the clutch depressed it tries to drive. I have checked the brake fluid and it's full (after checking this forum out!), and i've geared myself up for a clutch replacement over bank holiday weekend, wasn't really my plan!

I was only interested in finding out whether this is a common fault or whether anyone has experienced anything similar? I found a few old posts referring to clutch spring failure that aren't dissimilar. Im pretty sure im neck deep in clutch fixing anyway.

any help will be much appreciated, thanks in advance!

Welcome to the foum

Have you taken a look at the clutch slave cylinder ontop of the gearbox for leaking clutch fliud? Having to pump the clutch would point towards a leak, its easy and cheap to change. Its under the battery tray though :p

I have highlighted the clutch release arm and slave cylinder here.

This post has been sitting around for two weeks. Have you sorted it yet?

From your description, the clutch clearly is not disengaging.

Your options are
1. Clutch hydraulic system has leaks/ air in it.
Did you let the reservoir get too low? = sucked in air. Need to bleed it out.
Has a hydraulic line sprung a leak? Look for squirting fluid when someone presses the clutch pedal.
Has slave cylinder bleed nipple come loose?
2. Clutch hydraulic seals are goosed. Either at slave cylinder or master cylinder.
3. Actuation mechanism from slave cylinder into bell housing not operating/broken.
This can be seen in the pic posted by Adrian.
Has the arm come loose/worn on the top of the actuation shaft?

If it is none of the above then the fault lies with the actuation mechanism inside the bell housing. GBX off to have a look I'm afraid.

happy hunting
