Hello,

Last day I took out the valve cover to check out the oil pipe feed lines (as a caution, since these engines are pretty sensitive on this). Unfortunately, I overtightened a screw on it and now I've damaged the bolt hole!

It is that one (not my engine though). Since it's not well tightened (the bolt just turns freely), it has started to slowly leak oil (a drop or two).

I have a Bravo 1.4 engine.

What can I do to repair it?

Try tapping it out (make a new thread) for a slightly oversized new bolt.

Can.t you use a nut on the other side ??
i thing the screw goes through the bit of metal who's theard's you sheared off..
if i'm mistaking:
do what Ffoxy sayd.
or have someone capable of welding aluminium fill the hole up.. and then drill and re tap it to the current size.

Thank you for your replies.
I'm searching for someone capable of doing the aluminum rebuild, but I'm at Portugal, so I haven't found no one yet. (n)
Anyway, do I need to take the head off or can it be done on the spot?

Electric welding poses a strong risk to your car electrics so ensure the battery is removed if it is welded on the car. If possible remove the parts to be welded from the car entirely... this is why I suggested simply re-tapping & fitting a slightly bigger bolt.

How about using a heli-coil? A friend suggested me this and it seems far easier to use one.

Usually better in deep holes but worth looking into I'd say, more costly than a simple tap-out though.
