my brava just lost all its oil, and just when i was beginning to enjoy driving it, getting it into a garage 2moz hopefully it wont be too expensive

Unless it has a spectacular oil leak I'd suspect you dont lift the bonnet much to check the fluids... lesson learned I hope...

As a matter of fact yes i do have the bonnet up for fluid checks, as on wednesday evening engine had oil in it, so maybe ask before you presume. Parked up at a friends and when i came out loads of oil on the floor so had my brother tow me home rather than drive it

Had the sump plug out recently? Might have gotten loose somehow. Otherwise, could be a lot of things. My best guess would be a leaky sump plug or a cracked sump (Hit any rocks or something lately?)

No not hit anything at all, the oil is on the timing belt as well so my brother presumes a gasket or something along those lines having a look this mornin before i phone the garage and get it looked at

Oil Filter on tight enough? Had one loosen somehow before and moved when I touched it. oil was everywere but no damage as i spotted the problem.

Its a good job you werent driving when it all poured out.

not 100% sure yet will be checking it over in about half hour, yeh i didnt want to risk overheating/siezing the engine would have been more costly

Easy fella... I did say "Unless it has a spectacular oil leak" and you did... dont go off on one so easy... I didnt even add bait for that bite lol!

sorry fella, stress strings wound a bit tight at the mo lol

;) No worries... I understand, hopefully it's just a cam cover gasket & a simple fix, trouble is the stuff splashes about so it's hard to see the source. Good job it happened when standing I dread to think of what could have happened to the engine internals at 70 on a Motorway! Time to get dirty I suppose or are you going to garage it for a mechanic to get into it?

my brothers mechanic will be doing it for me in a garage who specialise in italian cars, without looking he guesses a gasket maybe crank seal, he thinks im looking at £250+vat which if it sorts problem then im happy

i shall see this week, no yet confident enough to work on this as im used to mk2 golfs/polos ibiza and bmw/audi etc lol 1st fiat

Possibly the sump seal, Ive sen these perish on some cars

You've just reminded me of mine thanks! was going to see if i could get away with tightening the bolts.

I've got a gearbox leak on mine, topped it up an just leaked even more lol. will get round to that at some point.

also you wont notice any leaks on the ground if you have an undertray fitted.

Just came back from scrappy an the bravo i was stripping had what looked like an explosion in the engine bay of oil lol.

I had mk2(90-94) polo as my first car. still got remains of it in the house.

put the brava into a garage this week to find the cause of my oil leak, their conclusion, oil pump broken, apparently bolts for timing cover were done up too tight and cracked oil pump, or something along those lines ( even those these bolts havent been touched for about 5 years) their quote £650 +VAT, errr no thanks i think i shall just fit another engine, lol any1 have a car they are scrapping with the 1.8 16v engine in it?? cheeers

jut ordered my replacement engine :D 67,000 miles on it, 2000 reg. £215 delivered :D chuffed!!!
