Can someone advise of the scale of taking on changing a clutch on a Bravo 1.2 80sx on a 51 plate. I have done timing belts before but never a clutch.I am getting some juddering when pulling away but not all the time,more so when the car has been driven for a while.Any advice would be great

pretty easy if you know what your doign but time consuming,

drive shafts out the box,
take off selectors and unplug clutch ect.
mounts un done (support engine with a stand and box on a jack)
undo the bolts to the block
undo starter
make sure the 10mm stone guard bolt is off at the bottom
take it off, undo clutch

put new one on (aligned)
and reverse above.


pretty sure ive missed alot out but its not that hard if ur mechanically minded, where in the contry are you?

Is there a Haynes manual to cover this Bravo (51 plate), not sure if the ones available will be any good as they only go up to "2000 W" or would it be the same re the clutch ?

Its the same engine and box, just the injection system is modified to meet new emission regulations. So the haynes manual is correct in that sense

If your clutch is juddering you must make sure the input shaft bearing has'nt gone. It's easy to check when you take the box out. If the clutch plate is contaminated with oil check the gearbox shaft for play. You should not be able to get any sideways movement on it. If the bearing (and oil seal) have gone it's useless putting the gearbox back with a new clutch because it won't last more than a week or two. Most times it's just the clutch but check to be sure.

Is this much of a job to change the input shaft bearing and seal if this is the cause ?
