My MOT failed as the rear shock absorbers are leaking & need replacing. I have membership with AA so booked my MOT through them & they referred me to a garage.
They have quoted me £230 inc vat for repair & labour. Does this amount sound about right? I know nothing about cars so don't want to be ripped off!

** Its a 1.6 auto Brava (2000) by the way.

Thanks,
Stef.

Just to give you an idea of the price of shocks they can range from £35-60 a set, higher for OEM fiat shocks, Monroe shock seem to be going for a decent price on ebay, I would see what the price of parts are alone and if its cheaper to buy the parts yourself and have them fit them, if you were working at the price of say £50 for fiat ones supplied that would be £180 in labour.

As an MOT tester i havent told you this.......wash them off untill there isnt a trace of oil left get it tested at another garage.

That only works if the leak is so small it doesn't show up again on the drive to the other garage. And leaky shocks require changing. It's a safety issue, and when driving a car, it's not only your own safety!
