firstly my car is a 1.2 sx 80 formula on a Y plate

now i have been to andrew page and got quotes for the parts and i specifically asked if the plugs needed gapping or would they just go in?

and the guy said they would just go in.

ok i thought

so today i went to charlie browns just to get a price and he said of his own back the type of plugs would need gapping,
followed by it was a kind of unusual part number he wasn't familiar with but they were ngk plugs (what i think I'm looking for) and he went on about it being a fiat specialest part (in no way was he trying to push a sale on me)

so??
can someone please provide a link to plugs and leads i need and assure me if they need gapping or not so i can order them tonight, would prefer good parts at a good price no crap make do stuff,

thanks.. :worship:

i allways end up with engines on bloody changerover years :bang:

Ffs it's 50/50 everytime I get answers lol
Plus the car is bang on the change over year so there's 2 sets,
Think I'll just send it to alfatech and get the works once the snow goes away

Hardly 50/50 as I answered both questions you asked.
2 Sets of what? Plugs or leads?
Easiest way is to just go onto www.eurocarparts.co.uk and put in your reg number so it finds your exact car and go from there.

By 50 50 I mean iv asked ten people 5 say yes and 5 say no
Iv used the car reg and have a choice between 2sets of plugs for the year 2000

yeah there were 2 makes.

this morning i thought £uck it ill just get both sets and take back what wont fit,

anyway they only had ngk R dcpr8e-n in stock but no leads

took them anyway got a mate to fit them we didnt gap them and then clean up the leads with some spray,

and the cars fine now just drove home like i was sat on a fly feels like a 1.4 to drive

if i do change the leads in future where can i get coloured ones or will i have to paint them?

thanks for the help.

If this is the 1.2 16v
From July 1999 they are spec'd with DCPR8E-N which need to be set to 0.8mm gap.
Before July 1999 they are spec'd with DCPR8EKC which are a twin electrode plug and go in straight as supplied.

yes 16v on y plate,

i put the plug number

Well its from july 1999 going by your plug number info and we didnt gap them just popped them in and its like a new car, saying that a mate who fitted them said its a older engine,

But it wasnt first registerd till 2001 so **** knows

last 3 cars i had/have were on change over years and have had to take parts back, so i really take partshops/garages advise with a pinch of salt nowadays hence posting up here,

if they need gapping guess ill be using a lot of fuel lol

that brings me to my next post.. mpg / so on / ill start a new thread

back again :)

ok i never gapped the plugs

i bought the set that going by info on here need the 0.8 gap

(well i must have because the old plugs in the box here have the same part numbers lol)

and will be looking to get that done tomorrow as after been sat over the weekend when starting for the first time its not running on all cylinders until i give it a bootfull in 2nd gear,

then all is fine so far,

just wanted to ask is that normal symptoms or is there a coil fault occurring?

asking because all has been so well for so long now?

and the other fault i had was the key code light randomly coming on and not starting the car i switch of and on a few times till it goes out then its ok (i have started another thread on that "and also read another solution that it could been faulty ignition aerial/wire or something")
see here https://www.fiatforum.com/bravo-brava/266535-key-code-light-random-no-start.html

thanks

Time to answer these questions :)

First, the plugs you need are ngk alright, the part number is DCPR8-EKC. These are twin electrode plugs and need no gapping. I would recomend with your current plugs you take them out, gap and clean them up, as they are they aint helping the situation.

2nd, ht leads are realy dealer only, unless you want a set of magnecore plugs from ebay, which are similar priced. From the dealer they are roughly 76 vat inc.

3rd giving it a bootful sounds like your plug leads are on the way out. Are they popping up?

Hope ive been some help...!

I just changed the plugs on my Y-reg 1200 Brava, used the DPRC8E-N following extensive research. Actually I didn't gap them because everyone tells you they're already pre-gapped. And I couldn't find my feelers. Anyway the car runs really nice now.

It's confusing because the older engines use the twin-electrode plugs which you would think are more advanced. The newer engines have 4-hole Bosch injectors instead of 2-hole...

Newer engines can be identified because there is a 6mm black cable going into the top of the cam cover, for the camshaft sensor. Also there is a 50mm extension section between the engine block and the actual sump, plus the CAT is right in front of the engine block and there is a second lambda sensor.

hello again how sure can you be its part number DCPR8-EKC

as when i changed the plugs they were a perfect match but the type that need a gap not the type you state,

can anyone link me to a haynes im sure the first few pages showing engine types i can just look and put a end to the confusion once and for all.

its ran fine today havent had a second to myself to do any work on the car just cleaned it. will keep you posted might have chance to change them tomorrow,

help with a haynes link/download would be great thanks

DCPR8-EKC are the plugs you need. The single electrode plugs are for the 97 - 99 1.2 16v from the Punto. I dont know why Bravos take these plugs but thats what the dealers (more than one) say these cars take

Older engines = NGK DCPR8EKC = twin electrode
FIAT BRAVA 1.2 12/98-->05/99 182B2.000 DCPR8EKC 4 16 VALVE

Newer engines = DCPR8E-N = one electrode

FIAT BRAVA 1.2 07/99 –>
FIAT BRAVO (95-->01) 1.2 07/99 –>
FIAT PUNTO 2 (10/99-->06/03) 1.2 10/99 –> 06/03
FIAT STILO 1.2 11/01 –> 11/02

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/NGK-SPARK-PLU...arts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item230181b05a

I think NGK know a little bit about it too...

http://www.ngkpartfinder.co.uk/car_...%20PLUGS&manufact=FIAT&model=BRAVA&engine=1.2

I saw both plugs at my dealer.. they were marked FIAT but were from NGK with the correct codes.

You could argue that the 182B2.000 engine can take either depending on year. It probably makes bugger all difference, but if extra electrodes are your thing, go for it!

The End.

Who has a Haynes ??
Scan a picture of these two engines, I'll know what I'm dealing with then,

Iv got the gapped plugs in my pocket now ready to fit,
I'll bet knowing my luck it's the older engine and I'll need the twin electrode plugs tho,
Getting to be a pain in the arse now this
