Hello everyone

Very new to this so if someone has posted similar in the past you'll have to excuse me.

The car is a '96 Brava 1.6 sx which runs pretty well most of the time. However, when it starts to get warm, and driving in traffic, the engine idles at an incredibly low speed and stalls quite a lot. when I try and re-start the starter motor struggles to turn the engine over, and when it does start the rev's are again very low and unless I keep light pressure on the accelerator it stalls again.

The following have been checked and found to be in good working order:
Cooling system, both the level and function
Starter motor is fine
Battery and charging system fine
Oil levels are ok
Just been serviced so plugs, etc are fine

Called Green Flag out but by the time they arrived it had cooled down and started first time and engine running normally. Their mechanic hadn't got a clue and could only suggest that it might be an engine management problem.

Any suggestions would be gratefully received.

Sounds like a lack of fuel to me. Could be the fuel pump or a blocked injector in the engine. Has the performance become a touch more sluggish generaly?

Overall performance is pretty much as it was before, fuel consumption is the same too which is why it is so frustrating.

my brava does not like getting hot either.when i get stuck in traffic it can run lumpy,as soon as i get going and the temp drops it runs fine.my mates vectra is the same.i put it down to fuel starvation.maybe evaporating due to the high temperature of modern cars.call me old fashioned but i like a fan that runs all the time like my mini.the temp stays the same on that even when i get stuck in traffic.
