Any help appreicated as great going little car apart from this hopefully small problem

With stepper motor connected to the throttle body engines revs at over 2000-3000rpm, replaced with working second hand stepper motor same problem, have removed stepper motor obvioulsy getting the car to idle now is impossible as dies every time you come to a stop.

Have stripped and cleaned the throttle body

Anybody any ideas?

Hi did you reset the ECU when you put the new stepper motor in? The ECU will need to recognise the new stepper motor, take the earth lead off over night then re-connect in the morning, start the engine and let idle as the ECU is now going through a re-learning phase and will adapt the new stepper motor, IMPORTANT - do not rev the engine for at least 5 mins during the learning stage or you will upset the re-learning process and have to start again. After about 5 mins switch off engine and then re-start take for a test drive as ECU is still collecting data from the stepper and vice versa. Hope this helps..(y)

I doubt it is steprer motor problem. On 1.2 engine most common fault is Throttle body position sensor. Fortunately there is no need to change it in most cases. Putting the washer between sensor and engine will probaby solve this problem.(y)
