hi guys im new to the forum and having a bit of a problem with my 2001 1.6 brava, after replaceing the clutch i took the car down to the local garage to get them to put some new clips on the inner cv boots and top the gearbox oil up for me but he said it was a waste of time as gearbox oil was pouring out frome what looked like the driveshaft seal. so thinking i maybe damaged it i decided to strip it down and have a look but cannot seem to get this seal out at all (not sure if it just the rubber or the metal ring aswell im supposed to take out ) , after reading a post somewhere else i read that the diff seal dosnt really seal it as its the cv boot that does on the 1.4 and 1.6 model and if so would explain y the gearbox oil was pouring out as thats why i took it to the garage to get new clips and fasten them back on , can anyone clarify this? ive damaged the seal a little trying to get it out but if it is the cv boot that seals will it make any differance really?i have ordered a new driveshaft seal from fiat which they say will take a couple of days, ty for input

Sorry, can't help personally but would like to know also! For a HGT though :p

Mine's leaking a bit too and would like to know what to get before sorting it!

I think I may be a few years late, but perhaps I still have the chance to help someone.

I distrusted my mechanic when he told me he didn't change the oil seal on the gearbox because what seals the oil is the CV boot.
I called several auto parts stores and they all told me there were oil seals for the Fiat Brava.

But I also checked this manual where everything is detailed for all Brava models: https://www.fiat-lancia.org.rs/Manuals/FiatBravoAHaynesRepairManual.pdf

And it explicitly doesn't mention that for the 1.6 manual model, oil seals need to be changed, but it does mention that CV boots need to be changed.

Here's the excerpt from the text:

1.2 and 1.4 litre models and 1.6 litre models (automatic transmission)10 Before inserting the driveshaft, check the condition of the oil seal in the transmission casing, and if necessary renew it with reference to Chapter 7A or 7B. Briefly, the work involves unbolting the side flange, hooking out the old oil seal, then driving in the new oil seal using a suitable socket or metal tube on the hard outer surface, and finally refitting the flange.11 Carefully insert the inner end of the driveshaft so that it engages the splines of the differential gears, then press it firmly inwards until the circlip is felt to engage the groove in the gear.1.6 litre models (manual transmission)12 Before refitting the driveshaft, check the condition of the gaiter and if necessary renew it with reference to Section 3.13 Clean the flange on the side of the transmission, then insert the driveshaft inner joint tripod into the differential sun gear. Locate the gaiter on the transmission flange, and tighten the clip.
