The starter motor on my Brava 1.6 Trofeo is now getting noisy, screechy noise on start-up but worse when the engine is cold - no problems though when starting from warm. In all other respects the engine starts up fine first time.

Should I replace it now, and is it an easy job to do? Had a look in engine bay and the starter motor seems to be located right at the bottom of the engine. Has anyone changed a starter on a 1.6 before, and is it straightforward job? Just like to have a go at it myself.

Id replace as soon as possible. Could be the flywheel thats wearing. Just had to replace the mrs on her merc (she left it for months) cost us £800!!

Just an update on this. Have bought a second hand starter motor from a 2001 Brava, this is a Bosch unit, the original one is Magnetti Marelli. On the Bosch unit I've noticed that the centre bolt hole of the three is blanked off with a locating plug. The supplying breakers have said this will fit my Brava, however has anyone used one of these units before and do they fit? Just wondered before I take the old unit off. Thanks for any help.
