Hi!
Time's running out for me to get my Brava 1.9TD100 going again as the tax runs out this month, and 0.0001 seconds after it runs out there'll be a complaint on Fix My Street about it...!!!
Anyway I'm still stuck with that lousy generator which I can't get out (I have to work outside and this weekend is the first (after four months of rain, snow and freezing-cold weather!) its been dry and warm enough to do anything to it!
1) Can someone ***please*** tell me how to go about it as I've been heaving and struggling all day trying to remove the driver's side front suspension-arm and unbolt the hub-assembly from the strut to try and make space to get it out - its not an option to leave it in and drive it somewhere to get it done professionally as the battery goes flat so quick that it wouldn't last me the distance to Motormec - the old alternator has a short-circuit rectifier unit!
2) Anyone got any ideas for removing a rusty brake disc? I've got the old pads/calipers out but the wretched thing looks like a welded fixture - its not of course - there's so much rust and crud round the hub-flange! It's got no hope of getting MOT'd with the discs the state they are - I've got new ones & pads on order and I've already got caliper-seals, new pad-fixing springs and front flexible hoses for it! Is it OK to wire-brush the outside of calipers?
3) What sort of tool do I need to get to separate the drive-shaft from the intermediate flange? I got a hex-bit set from Halfords but the bits are far too short (surprise-surprise!) - another gripe of mine is that Halford's so-called purpose-made tools won't do the job they're allegedly sold for - I've just made the same discovery with one of their so called "Diesel Injector Sockets" - it won't even fit over the thing!
