I've just bought a 2001 fiat bravo 1.2L and it ran well for about 20 miles. I then got a engine system failure warning light and the car became very juddery and eventually wouldnt start without stalling. A recovery man was sure it just needed a new coil pack. So i replaced that....which didnt make any difference. I then replaced the spark plugs which seemed to sort the problem. However, the warning light stayed on and the engine is still hesitant and juddery alot of the time.

Does anyone have any ideas what it could be?! Could it be some sort of sensor or HT leads? And am i right in thinking only fiat garages have the right diagnostic tools to properly diagnose the problem??

Thanks! Unfortunately the spark plugs seemed to sort it for a while but after driving for 5 minutes the warning light came back on and the car became almost undriveable :( after being towed home again the bloke reckons now its the head gasket gone. I dont see how this would cause the ignition system warning light to come on tho??

Is it the ignition warning light or injection management light thats on?

I think in the handbook it calls it something like engine control system failure. But on the diagnostic machine it was showing faults P0300, P0302 and 303. :)

Hi, I had a similar problem to this a few months back on a Y reg 1.2SX, everyone I spoke to said it would be the coil pack but it turned out to be a bad HT lead, even when I tried to buy the HT leads at the shop the guy kept asking if I was sure it wasn't the coil pack!
Fitted the new HT leads and car was fine.

Really?! that was going to be the next thing i tried... but now a mechanic reckons the head gasket has gone! hopefully it is the HT leads though. I think i'll have to get the HT leads checked or something. Did your car overheat alot from the HT lead going though?

When did the overheating start?

How is your coolant level?
