Hi there,

I'm looking for airbag ecu module nr. 46413633 out of an uncrashed bravo build about 1996 or 1997... it's important that the module didn't fire the airbags yet. Ideally, it's from a car where the airbag light functions normally and the car is scraped for some other reason. The number on the module should match mine.

I want to change mine which has a fault since a faulty alternator sparked some high voltage peaks around.

Thanks
Zardo

Hi,

its almost exactly between the two leg rooms where driver and passeger put their feets - take off the cover of the handbrake. Take of the cover of the base of the gear lever (that is, get it out of the middle console) then unfit the middle console - that big plastic thing is fixed by four little bolts, two at driver's side, two at passenger's side - you will find them if you lower yourself in the corresponding leg room - you can then move the cover slightly to the rear, there is no need to get if of completely. You will then see a yellow cable going to a metal box - unfortunately, you will have to unscrew the bolts with which it is fixed to the frame of the car, but that's easy. Turn it to the side to be able to see its number (the number is on top and should start with 4.......).

DO NOT disconnect the yellow cable as long as the battery is still connected to the car, there is no need to disconnect the cable if all you want to do is to find out the number of the airbag ECU (the cable is long enough to turn the module to see its number). Ignition should be off during all manipulation, that means DO NOT unscrew the bolts or move the module while the ignition is on - airbags might get triggered.

If you want to disconnect the airbag ECU, disconnect the battery first, then wait five minutes. Be sure there is no other voltage source in the car, like a second battery for high-power amplifiers or else, before disconneting.

If you fit the airbag module back in, be sure the little arrow on the top side of the module points to the front of the car.

hope this helps

Follow up:

Found one on Ebay which was sold by a professional scrap merchant, bought it for 150 euros which was quite expensive, but much less than the garage wanted (they wanted 1000 Euros for changing the module and all cabling, too).

I mounted it today after the battery had been disconnected for 10 min.

Now the airbag light switches off after ~ 2 sec. :slayer:
