While rebuilding my engine I have found an incorrect torque figure in the Haynes manual. This caused me to snap the head off a bolt. Luckily I had spare bolts and my dad is a qualified engineer he knew how to remove the end of the bolt by hitting it with a centre punch.

I was fitting my clutch pressure plate to the flywheel. Something most people here would try when changing a clutch, with their Haynes manual as backup. There are 6 small M6 bolts.

Incorrect!
Haynes Page 6-1 said:
Pressure plate retaining bolts 25Nm 18lbf ft

Correct! (But oddly worded)
Fiat Service Manual - Section 1 - Intro & Tech Data said:

So that's 9Nm 7lbf ft

As I tightened the bolt I could feel it wasn't right but double checked the book and thought it must just be the pressure plate springs winding in thats making it feel wrong and carried on then snap.

Id guess those bolts break at 18nm after testing a few spares on my spare flywheel.

Ive also checked my cinq haynes manual and that says 10Nm for its pressure plate bolts, so the Bravo Haynes book is almost certainly incorrect.

Had exactly the same problem doing my clutch on a 1.4 a little while back. Double checked it with Fiat and saw that it was wrong in Haynes. Took a while to explain 0,9 daNm to my dad though.

They used to be good. I've got a few of me dads old manuals. When you compare the Manual of me dads for his old Tipo to my Bravo Manual they were a lot better in the past. Had clear drawings, and good instructions.

How come no-ones ever raised the issue that the haynes manual dosent cover the 00-01 bosch 1.2 bravos with motorised throttle? What if someone wanted to change the potentiometer on the accelerator pedal?? Surely there must be more people out there then me that went to change an exhaust or engine transplant for the 1st time and cursed the haynes manual for not having some of this information?!

Hi everybody. Is it me, although I know you state it's worded funny, but surely the flywheel to crankshaft bolts are not same as the clutch pressure plate to flywheel bolts. I have just changed the clutch on my 1.2L Brava and re-used the Ribe bolts and torqued up to the Haynes manual 25Nm (actually 27Nm as my torque does not go that low) and had no problems at all. Behind the clutch assembly there are the 6 bolts for attaching the flywheel and these are normally low and used with a threadlock of somekind. Unless I have missed something!!

i just noticed that or has the picture link maybe been changed/gone wrong

the fly wheel bolts are something like 45nm and 8mm thread and thread lock?
