I have recently bought a 2001 (y-reg) Fiat Brava 1.3 80sx and have noticed that when cornering to the right the back end slides out ever so slightly. On the motorway this is more apparent. I've checked the tyre pressure on all wheels and they are all the same. I have a feeling the problem is the rear Damper but i'd like to know for sure before i commit to buying a replacement. Would i have to buy a set for the rear (both corners) or can i just but one for one corner? How involved is the job??? Also, if this isn't the problem is there anything else i can rule out? I look forward to all your replies

hi ya

have you checked tread on rear tyres, if they are low the rear will break away, as for dampers, allways change in pairs if you don't this could upset the balance of the car, so have a look to see if previous owner has done this, can't remember [age!!] if they are gas or oil shocks, have a look for any leaks on the shocks and try the bounce test on the rear at each corner, push down hard and let the car bounce back up, it will then settle at it's origonal height,, if it goes up and down like a jelly, shocks knackered, the front shock will give you a good indicator of the bounce, try the front corner first as a guide.

oh yes, have a look at the rear springs as well, see if there is any broken or damaged coils, if all is ok Mmmmm......... could then be looking at swing arm rubber mounts and stuff like that, bit deep for me I’m afraid. :(

P.S I though the 80sx was a 1.2

Thanx for the advice. I'll check those things out. Don't think its the tyre tread though! Yes you are right about the engine size. I saw 1242cc on the log book thinking it was 1252.
